With previous releases and remixes on the tough Detox label, Gleave is making his first appearance on Reset Records with 'Needle Werk' and 'Come With Me', plus SvD put in a cheeky edit of his own...
Gleave - Needle Werk / Come With Me :: Reset Records :: RS026
A: Needle Werk 'Needle Werk' is tough and techy to its very core. Comprised of chunky beats, edgy percussion and some downright gut wrenching grinding basses, it pushes out its funky rhythm to you without remorse. The sheer 'rawness' of this production is captured during the breakdown, which can be more aptly described as one totally huge, massive and humongous (yes, it's big) climactic build up. By the end of it the grinding synths are wailing, the flangers and the filters are going wild and just when you think it's all over there's one more burst of rising energy before a quick hit of drums brings the whole lot back in and you'll be rocking it along with the rest of the dance floor. Great little sfx hits and beat skips add the icing to this techy cake. You might not take to this one immediately but it creeps up on you as you listen to it - especially when the breakdown finishes and the track drops in!
B1: Come With Me (SvD Stripped Edit) SvD's Stripped Edit of 'Come With Me' is just that. It's been stripped down to the bare essentials and only really added to in terms of bass and percussion. The bass is deep and soft and seems to primarily carry the track along. The percussion has been massively built on - most of the sfx and rhythm come from the crazy amounts of percussion to be heard here. The "Come With Me" sample (from CJ Bolland's 'The Prophet') from which the track gets its name can be heard (quietly) throughout the track which is interesting because it adds a subtle hint of familiarity. Quite minimal tech, this may not appeal to the masses but again it seems to be one of those tracks which grows on you as you listen, simply because of the groovy essence that it contains within.
B2: Come With Me (Original) In the Original Mix of 'Come With Me' you can clearly hear where the great lack of percussion and related effects when compared to SvD's Edit. Other than that (and a raw, bassy lead which comes in after the breakdown) these tracks are pretty much the same in structure and composition.

Conclusion:
One to test those tech fans out there. 'Needle Werk' should most definitely be given a chance as it really is quite banging. While SvD's edit of 'Come With Me' isn't so banging, it does have a groovy edge which may also catch your attention, if you just give it a chance.
