One of the UK's clubs that kick started Gatecrasher's rise to global stardom burnt to the ground a few days ago by a fire that has left the famous club venue torn to bits.
The Republic club was bought by Gatecrasher back in 1997 and in the years to follow it fast became one of the most famous clubs in the world. Based in Sheffield, a former steel producing town in middle England the club attacted millions of clubbers from around the UK to get down and party. From the early years of crasher kids and the beginning of the boom in the Trance genre people have enjoyed some really good times at the club.
It's sad news to hear that over the last weekend gone a fire broke out at the club, reasons for which are not known, at least to me anyway. The fire has completed torn apart the main building of the club leading to parts of it to collapse. The news has been on the official Gatecrasher site along with encouraging words that the venue will be re-built and return bigger and better than ever. The memories of the former club are sure to stick with the many DJ's and clubbers who have been there over the years.
You can leave a message on the Gatecrasher site along with hundreds of others expressing their memories and sadness at the news of the fire. Sheffield may have lost its Gatecrasher prescence for now but I'm sure the Lion will be back roaring once again.
