One of the most interesting CDs i\'ve heard ever is Unusual Suspects, released by Twisted Records. For those Psy Trance fans, this is definitely a track for you, and for those more funkier progressive fans, this can be for you too!
Unusual Suspects, is a 9 track album mix from Twisted Records which exclusively covers a variety of artists from around the world.
For those of you familiar with Infected Mushroom, will know Aizen & Duvdevani, they have collaborated with Twisted Records producer Simon Posford to create Fly Agaric, with their awesome \"I See Myself\" (Unreleased Demo Mix), very old-skool psy trance which fits well into those John \'00\' Fleming sets.
Tracklist:
1. Younger Brother - The Finger 2. DSP - Have a Good Time (All the Time) 3. Twisted Allstars - Blue Sky on Mars 4. Tristan - Fortean Times 5. The Good the Bad & The Ugly - Mescalito (Synthetic Remix) 6. Prometheus - Mekong Delta 7. Fly Agaric - I See Myself (Unreleased Demo Mix) 8. Younger Brother - Dwarves (Main Mix) 9. Shpongle - Dorset Perception (Total Eclipse Mix)
A combination of new artists and established ones, and is definitely a high quality production CD.
One of my favorites is The Good the Bad & The Ugly - Mescalito (Synthetic Remix). A driving trancer fueled to the bone with energy, and with those quality repurcussions, this is a furious track which i can imagine, if unleashed on the dance floors with cause severe damage. If you ever get a chance to grab a copy, check out those pulsating vibes...
On a more mellow building side, Tristan\'s \"Fortean Times\" is a nice builder which I could imagine Fleming or Yahel or even Paul van Dyk to use in his sets near the beginning, as it rolls and rolls, building up fiercely without the listener too conscious about it.
A funkier tune would be Prometheus\' \"Mekong Delta\" along with Younger Brother\'s \"The Finger\" these 2 tracks, if you didn\'t know, could pass as a funky trancer / house if slowed down a bit.
Then we move onto Younger Brother\'s \"Dwarves\"... this is a nice track, and would definitely not fit a psy trance genre... If you listened to it, it would remind you of a Parks and Wilson tribal set, with nice funky drums and those Middle Eastern chants.. definitely one for the progressive minded fans out there.
The final track by Shpongle is what i would consider a psychadelic ambient tune.. It seems to almost explode at any seconds warning but is just a nice dark ambient tune with a few spanish guitar twangs and a bit of female vocals haunting the background.
Listen to the album from front to end with your eyes closed and you\'re definitely in a different world, with seemingly great influence from the sound of Israel\'s Psy-Trance scene as well as adding a bit of funk, a bit of ambience and bit of vocals.
Class Album in my opinion and i would give 9/10 for this one.
This CD is to be released shortly with an expected date of (March 18, 2002) and more info can be obtained from their funked up website at www.twisted.co.uk
