The first of 3 vinyl samplers showcasing tracks from Menno de Jong's quality new trance compilation 'Intuition Sessions Vol. 1 - South Africa' picks up on tracks by Kimito Lopez and Orkidea...
:: Intuition Sessions - Vol. 1 Vinyl Sampler 1/3 :: Intuition Recordings :: INTU909
A1: Kimito Lopez - Sub Runner This first look at the selection of samplers from 'Intuition Sessions Vol. 1' focuses on Kimoto Lopez' 'Sub Runner'. It's a down to earth trancer which captures the spirit of the Intuition label and therefore also the spirit of the Intuition Sessions compilation. Well formed bass and a level spread of percussion plus smooth, ghostly pads really embeds the track into a strong position. Finer moments continue to come as a distant, dreamy melody is coaxed into play during the break, and it continues to soar as the track drops back in and plays on. Once the track is in full swing, it's so obviously clear how solid the production really is, so all in all, a truly enjoyable piece of quality trance.
AA1: Orkidea Feat. Marc Mitchell - Eternal Love 'Eternal Love' is an entirely different piece of music. It begins with a long and very varied intro then kicks off into a slow and easy pace of 130BPM. You get a soft hint of bass, easy going kicks and little touches of synth here and there along with a few crunchy sfx. All in all a fairly proggy and almost housey feel at the start. The break is a total transformation though. The beats give way to a sea of swirling, ambient pads and a deep and engrossing piano melody. The piano takes you on a melodic tour with all the grace and grandeur a grand piano can provide and then some. But before you know it, you're back into the prog/house beat pattern. However the piano does make one final pass a little later, this time as a lead melody over the track instead of a breakdown. A different track yes, but very very nice indeed.
Oh, and it's on an orange vinyl, so it also looks incredibly cool too. ;-)
Conclusion:
A great start to this sampler series, and if you're using them as a guide to the album itself, then this paints a great initial picture.
