Yes that's a pretty mammoth tracklisting for CD1. As you can see right away, of the 21 tracks there, over half have been given Eddie's specialist live treatment. Let's face it, with Eddie Halliwell being who he is, this gives this first CD, let alone the compilation, the immediate upper hand over a lot of other releases out there at the moment.
The general jist of the 'Altern8ive Mix' is to cover a cooler, funkier selection of what's big in electro, house and techno plus some mashups for extra spice. From start to finish however, the hefty beats and fat basslines cover mainly the electro basses, as is the popularity of the sound at the moment. It's all the same though, there are some more minimal interludes and the final 3 tracks at least rate quite highly on the techno scale. Watch out for favourites such as Pryda - Remember and Sebastien Leger's 'Hit Girl'.
CD02 - Main Room Mix 01) John O'Callaghan - Space & Time (Intro Mix) (Eddie's Filter-ed-it) 02) Super8 & Tab - Need To Feel(Wippenberg Remix) (Eddie's Extend-ed-it) 03) 4 Strings - Mainline (4 Turntables Mix) 04) Insigma - Open Your Eyes (Sean Tyas Mix) 05) Activa - Genetix 06) Bedrock - Heaven Scent (Greg Downey Remix) 07) Carlo Resort - Battery (Eddie's Energizer-ed-it) 08) Gleave Dobbin - Fire Devil (Eddie's Layer-ed-it) 09) Thomas Bronzwaer - Constellation 10) John O'Callaghan - Low Resolution Fox (John Askew Mix) 11) Stoneface & Terminal - Volcano (2am Album Mix) (Eddie's Live EFX-ed-it) 12) Thomas Bronzwaer - Close Horizon (Giuseppe Ottaviani Remix) 13) Paul Webster - Corruption 14) Bryan Kearney - More To Life (Eddie's Echo-ed-it) 15) Ignition Technition - Ignite It (Original Mix) (Eddie's Layer-ed-it) 16) Nihad Tule - Clones 9 (Eddie's Essential 3 Deck-ed-it) 17) Tiesto - Lethal Industry (Richard Durand Remix)
CD2, the 'Main Room Mix' is where we get to hear what Eddie will be playing for his peak time sets in Cream's Amnesia in Ibiza this year. Just under half of the dirty, techy and energized tracks have been influenced by Eddie's touch this time.
This second CD is pretty much full power all the way through. You're given a nice intro and some dirty 'elec-trance' to begin with then things pretty much go full on from there and alternate from time to time between lively, energetic trance and tough, banging tech trance. Near the end of the CD there's even some full on techno thrown in - Ignition Technician - Ignite It - something I never expected to see in what is essentially the trancey half of the compilation. Unmissable items here come in the form of Sean Tyas' remix of Insigma - Open Our Eyes, Thomas Bronzwaer - Close Horizon (Giuseppe Ottaviani Remix), Paul Webster - Corruption and Richard Durand's recent remix of Tiesto's 'Lethal Industry'.
Conclusion:
An on the ball amazing tracklist, superlative mixing and on top of that numerous exclusive Eddie re-edits all combine to make this another achievement in the annals of Halliwell's history. This is a highly recommended album which highlights multiple aspects - Eddie, Cream, Amnesia and the Ibizian party spirit. Go have a listen.
