Now this year's mega-festival has passed, you can re-live those moments over the rest of the summer with the triple CD album, Godskitchen - Global Gathering 2007...
:: Godskitchen Global Gathering 2007 :: New State Music
Long Marston Airfield near Stratford Upon Avon, in the UK, was once again host to 50,000+ clubbers, some of the world's best dance acts and DJs and all of the current and favourite hot tunes. The accompanying album features 3 CDs, the first two covering 'Electric' and 'Tech', whilst the final CD is labelled as 'Headliners' and contains an interesting blend of the biggest and best tunes from Global Gathering past and present.
CD1 - Electric 01. The Chemical Brothers - Do It Again (Oliver Huntemann Remix) 02. Sander van Doorn - By Any Demand (Peter Gelderblom Remix) 03. Spektrum - Kinda New (Dirty South '07 Remix) 04. David Guetta - Love Is Gone (Amo & Navas Remix) 05. Haji - If (Ran Shani Remix) 06. Degrees Of Motion - Do You Want It Right Now (Mischa Daniels Funktion Remix) 07. Kaskade - Sorry (Dirty South Remix) 08. Sunfreakz - Counting Down The Days (Axwell Remix) 09. Kris Menace - Lumberjack 10. Shapeshifters - Pusher (Lifelike Remix) 11. Robyn - Every Heartbeat (Tong And Spoon Wonderland Remix) 12. Roisin Murphy - Overpowered (Seamus Haji Remix) 13. Gat Decor - Passion (Dave Spoon Remix) 14. Axwell - I Found You (Remode Instrumental) 15. Justice - D.A.N.C.E. (Mstrkrft Remix) 16. Eyerer - Make My Day (Haunting)
The first CD, 'Electric', covers the most obvious genre at the moment: Electro House. There are a lot of standard sounds here as you'd expect from the current wave of electro, but the big fat basses and chunky beats are always the right thing to get you going and into the mood for a decent party. It's unlikely that every track here will appeal to everyone, but the usual suspects and the ones that stand out are tracks like Sander van Doorn's 'By Any Demand', Spektrum's 'Kinda New', David Guetta's 'Love Is Gone' and 'Sorry' from Kaskade. What struck me the most about this disc is that in, say, the final third of it, the tracks changed in style. The mood was more relaxed and the feel was more melodically driven. Is this a signal of change in the world of Electro...?
CD2 - Tech 01. Juergens - Love It 02. Paul Van Dyk - White Lies (Dave Spoon Remix) 03. Dubfire - Roadkill 04. Dogzilla - Frozen (Wippenberg Remix) 05. Riley - Experiment No. 2 06. Cygnus X - The Orange Theme (Tom Wax And Boris Alexander Remix) 07. Jes - Ghost (Phynn Remix) 08. Tiesto - Break My Fall 09. Perri - Anthem (Nic Chagall Remix) 10. Pulser - Things You Say 11. Tenishia - Outsiders (Cosmic Gate Remix) 12. Vincent De Moor - Fly Away (Cosmic Gate Remix) 13. Ron van den Beuken - Alkatraz 14. Armin Van Buuren - Rush Hour 15. Bobina - Lighthouse (Sean Tyas Remix) 16. Johan Gielen - Magnitude (Fable Stein Universal Journey Remix)
CD2, labelled 'Tech', is where all the big summer anthems are at. Tech is on the up and up, it seems, which is pretty damn good news because Tech Trance is now getting more of the exposure it deserves. The CD takes a few tracks to find it's footing, but it soon gets stuck in with those big ripping basses but at a faster pace with more driving beats. The top tunes come thick and fast, the best of which are probably among the likes of Tiesto & BT's 'Break My Fall', Filo & Peri's unmistakable 'Anthem', Armin van Buuren - Rush Hour and the awesome Sean Tyas Remix of 'Lighthouse' from Bobina. As you can tell, as disc2 progresses, the energy and tempo rise accordingly, in true Global style. This is where the party's at.
CD3 - Headliners 01. Calvin Harris - Acceptable In The 80's (Tom Neville Remix) 02. Armand Van Helden - NYC Beat 03. Roger Sanchez - Lost (D. Ramirez Lost In Rave Mix) 04. Soulwax - E Talking (Tiga's Disco Drama Remix) 05. Basement Jaxx - Fly Life 06. Pryda - Aftermath (Paolo Mojo Remix) 07. Faithless - Music Matters (Axwell Remix) 08. Paul Van Dyk - The Other Side (Deep Dish Other Than This Side Remix) 09. Ferry Corsten - Punk 10. Sander Kleinenberg - My Lexicon 11. Above & Beyond - Alone Tonight 12. Sasha - Xpander 13. Armin Van Buuren - Communication Pt. 3 14. Bedrock - Heaven Scent (Greg Downey Remix) 15. Oakenfold - Southern Sun (Tiesto Remix)
The final CD is an eclectic mix of various big tunes. It kicks off fairly easy going with a selective mash of house and electro and then nicely progresses into more melodic trance music thanks to tracks from Faithless and Paul van Dyk. This outing is finished off with some absolute classics, including Ferry Corsten - Punk, the inescapable Sasha - Xpander, the new remix of Bedrock - Heaven Scent from Greg Downey and the anthem of anthems, Tiesto's remix of Oakenfold - Southern Sun. As you can see, this one pulls no punches, and these tracks will be able to stir memories of good times in just about every clubber out there at the moment.
Conclusion:
With such a broad range of music covered, and such a massive name and global event backing it, it'd be quite hard for this compilation to go wrong. It's well worth checking out this snapshot of one of the most talked about events in the dance music calendar, because there's enough on offer here to satisfy almost anyone.
