Beno is a Polish DJ and thats all I know about him other than his latest release has just been unleashed on the public on Daif Records. Is it any good?
Daif Records are now up to release number twenty two and have had some very fine releases with a fair few of those being reviewed here on the I:Vibes pages. Release number twenty two is from a polish DJ called Beno with a track called Apocalypse. Three mixes available with the release.
:: Original Mix :: Osip Remix :: Spiral Eye Remix
I've not heard anything from Beno so did not have any expectations on what sort of style his records oozed. The original mix is very much banging uplifting progressive trance. Ok so its trance but that saying gives you a general idea of the kind of trance it is. The beat is nice and strong with percussion in the background skipping things along nicely. The main riff in here comes in the form a stubby piano created form, but using what sounds like a piano note filtered. The beat drops out and in places with the main riff in the record pounding away until the main break in the track. The track breaks down into almost silence leaving the riff to build it back up with the beat faded into the background before slamming back in with an added 'fred baker' style kick drum to add extra spice. No major uplifting epics in this track juts a good beat with a simple riff that builds up but never really explodes.
Onto the Osip mix then and here is another name I have not heard anything from but by the sounds used in this mix I think he's a fan of DJ Choose's style as this is very much in that same style. The beat comes in and in slides the riff which keeps to the same formula in the original but takes on the form of that classic sound you hear in DJ Choose records. It's a good thing I like his music as this mix was the one that caught my eye out of the three. The build up with the riff is that more uplifting and feels like its going somewhere not just walking round in the circle. The main melody which, drops in onto of the deep riff going on the bass element of the track, riff really works here and creates a flowing record. It's upbeat and well worked with good breaks and use of subtle beats kicking in here and there. This mix is energetic and for those who like to up the tempo. Osip has done well here.
Spiral Eye's mix is something a little bit different from the others. The vibe is a little more housed than pumping trance with a slower beat and deep bass rhythms on the build up. Something more the progressive fans this mix as it’s got a little tech element to it with the use of sounds throughout. The main melody of the record is there but spread different over a background piano influence but warped riff. I suppose you could say this mix is steady with no real major bits that stand out and slap you in the face like a dart to the privates.
Conclusion:
This is a fairly good release from Beno here but my tip in here is the Osip mix as it seems the more upbeat and uplifting than the original and Spiral Eye mixes, plus as I've not heard a new record from DJ Choose for a while it satisfies my need for his style of deep bass patterns found in his tracks.
