The DJ Mag Top 100 Poll is now closed for voting but is has been announced that certain DJ's within the poll have been expelled for trying to rig the vote. Who's been a naughty DJ then?
Every DJ knows how important a place in the top 100 DJ Mag's list is and since the vote has opened every DJ from all corners of the globe has been campaigning for your vote to place them in the top 100 elite compiled every year by UK publication DJ Mag.
As with any big poll corruption and vote rigging are rife with such gains from being higher up the ladder. I would say that in the past DJ Mag polls this has gone on and in cases not picked up on, its proving it that’s the hard part. This years vote has been under the microscope more than any previous votes with each and every single vote being checked for authenticity.
The investigation into suspicious voting focuses on multiple votes from the same IP address. Usually each computer will have its own unique IP but in cases this year the poll has seen numerous IP's posting an irregular amount of votes from the same IP number. The people behind the vote check over the irregular patterns and have uncovered quite a few cheaters.
Name and shame is what they have done and in the list there are quite a few very hi profile DJ's named. US Trance DJ Christopher Lawrence is one big name DJ caught out by the checks on voting. It seems apparent that votes for him were used by setting up a script to by pass the security procedures. They have records of a large quantity of votes being made in a very short period of time by the same IP address and on occasions multiple addresses. DJ Dan got caught with the same method although both claim they knew nothing about it as they both use the same Marketing People, of which I would have sacked if they were doing that to me.
Both Lawrence and Dan vehemently denied any involvement in vote rigging. “I take this matter very seriously,” said DJ Dan. “My assistant and I confronted my former marketing manager via telephone. He strongly denied any wrongdoing, but had no credible explanation for the improper voting. Christopher Lawrence, who used the same marketing person this year, reported similar voting problems.
When I discovered the common link was our marketing person, I immediately terminated him.” Source: DJ Mag.com
The worst case of cheating brought up by the investigation is the case of Japanese DJ Tiesme who paid a software engineer to create a script to generate votes for him. Paying for votes? That’s how highly a lot of DJ's value being in the top 100 poll. He has also been thrown out of the poll and rightly so, it should be the fans who decide if they like a DJ or not.
Other DJ's found cheating included the Flash Brothers and Erick Junior who gathered a ridiculas amount of votes within hours of the poll opening to take him to the number one spot.
The full article on the cheating is over on the DJ Mag's web site but it’s made clear that cheating in the poll is rife. Can we really believe that the Top 100 poll is a fair estimation on who really are the best 100 DJ's the world? I don’t think so but that’s always up for debate. It's good to see those who blatantly cheat being caught and thrown out of the vote. Maybe in the coming weeks before the results are announced more will be found to have been cheating. Naughty DJ's.
