Paul Oakenfold is the worlds most successfully dance DJ on the planet. He's sold more albums worldwide than any other artist. He looks set to bump up that number with a release of his greatest productions and remixes to date.
Paul Oakenfold may well be to some the person who got them interested in dance music. His early compilations and productions were top draw and he used to be a big DJ on the scene. He still is but he has moved his focus to more pop orientated material and mixing albums for movies. Maybe he is looking to get a star on the Hollywood pavements in the near future.
He still does the odd remix now and again but it's been a while since I've heard a DJ set from him or seen him pop up on any flyers for a gig. He is still in action and has a pretty busy schedule running up to the New Year with dates across American. Check his gig listings out on his MySpace page for all the listings. Fans of his early productions will be please to know he has a new compilation out son compiling some of his greatest productions and remixes. The three disc set also includes a few exclusive tracks not yet released and a few '2008' remixes, even though we are still very much in 2007. I guess there is nothing wrong with getting an early start.
From what I understand there is a two disc version with a free DVD featuring a short documentary on his lifestyle these days but the version you will want to grab is the three disc unmixed release. It's got all his old classics on it such as his remix of 'Born Slippy' and the superb 'Wide Open Space' by Mansun. It is a good release for those looking to collect his productions in full length format.
