High Contrast Recordings bring you the new release from Jochen Miller. It's dirty tech trance with a remix from Lock n Load on The flip.
Jochen Miller is a big talent on the Trance scene. His previous artist release have been nothing short of excellent with 'India' being one I'd wave at you have a listen to. This latest release takes on a more tech style rather than uplifting with a remix from Lock n Load. I hear you say, is that the same Lock n Load that blew your mind a few years ago? Yes it is but don’t worry they have learned their lesson.
:: Alive (Original Mix) :: Alive (Dub Mix) :: Alive (Lock n Load Remix)
Let's get into the action with the Original Mix. The track keeps you interested from start to finish. The deep beat bangs away like an irate copper at you door with a deep tech groove riding along in the background. Loads of splash effect kicks on the build up with this one and a zippy melody running along with the background groove. When all the build stops the main melody drops and its a epic string change that floats along until the beats start rolling again and its back to some tech sounding goodness. The melody in there feels like it has been stolen from an uplifting record and place into the middle of a tech fest. I can imagine this one going down very well on a big dancefloor with a huge soundsystem. The style of the melody is a little like a long flute notes that changes chord. Jochen you have created a very special melody in here, good work.
The Dub is described as being the 'electro' sounding mix. From the start its got the makings of one with a funky soften beat and a riff that comes from the background then explodes with a deep we electro groove. Its a little bit like a Benny B riff with not as deep. The track breaks down but the melody that featured in the original is not here. The electric groove cuts back in after a little beat pattern and pretty much makes up the meat of this mix.
I've not heard much of Lock n Load this year but what do they bring in with their mix. It's been a while since their "Blow Ya Mind" record which was 'commercially viable' as I like to put it. They try to go a little groovy with this mix with a deep electric groove on the build and short funky stabs here and there. The melody from the original is there and is put alongside the groove that runs in the track. You could say this is a little bit uplifting with them using the melody with the beat. It reminds me of a Jirgen Vires track though in parts. It's a decent remix thought and thankfully not in the same style as their early productions.
Conclusion:
Three very different remixes here with Jochen's original tech mix being the one I would slip on before the others. Lock n Load provide a good remix trying to use the melody in an uplifting fashion which kind of works. This is a solid release from Miller here which I like. Good work Jochen.
