Norwegian Kimoto Lopez puts out some dreamy trance for the ever-strong Five AM Records...
:: Kimito Lopez - Nostalgia :: Five AM :: FAM068
1) Nostalgia (Original Mix) 'Nostalgia' actually comes across fairly progressive during its first half. What this allows it to do, though, is demonstrate a consistent strength in its sound. The beats and percussion are extremely well balanced and the backing pads provide just the right amount of soft, silky sound in the background. All the time, these synths seem to rise and gain more power, whilst subtle riffs also continue to build into something intriguing so as to beckon you into the breakdown. Here, a lead melody is developed - the sound reminded me somewhat of Bart Claesson's 'Close Horizon'. It's not too overpowering though, and this step up into more melodic trance is a good, well placed move. The track allows you to exit smoothly, as it blends rather nicely back into its progressive, seamless roots.
2) Nostalgia (Orjan's Festival Remix) Orjan Nielsen steps up to provide 'Nostalgia' with a touch more energy. The percussion is much more alive and the bassline is very active. This remix is awash with Orjan's expert use of swooping synths, dreamy pads and rushes of energy. This production also uses to progressing stages approach but does so in more definitive steps. A lead is introduced fairly early on to provide some melodic guidance but this changes form later on into a smoother, more trancey lead. This new sound soars high above the other parts of the track, resulting in a more euphoric and uplifting production.
3) Apocrypha (Original Mix) 'Apocrypha' took me by surprise. It begins fairly subdued, but a chattering percussion gives it an unexpected but undeniable drive. Superbly delicate pads line the background and a soft, floaty lead entwines a sweet melody into the sound. A long and beautiful breakdown really takes you away into a world of dreams as a twisting and turning melody begins to take shape. It blends with the pads and is fueled by the percussion and forms something which just seems complete. An enchanting piece of delicate trance.

Conclusion:
This is a great EP from Kimito Lopez! Both 'Nostalgia' remixes are enjoyable but I think 'Apocrypha' takes the top spot for me. It came from nowhere, and really conquered. Wonderful music!
