Fancy something a little different when you go to the cinema? Then how about a film all about dance music featuring the biggest names in the Industry because that’s what White Label films are currently working on with a film called 'Louder'.
It's fair to say that dance music does not get much major media coverage at least not in the UK where dance music is very popular weather it be trance, house, techno, progressive or any other dance music based genre. With a lot of commercial garbage out and about and kids today worshipping chipmunks who can sing over cheesy beats a lot of people might get the wrong impression about the dance music industry or Electronic music industry which ever one you like to call it.
The last film that had some decent beats in it that I remember was 'It's All Gone Pete Tong' which told the story of a once massively popular DJ who went def, saw his career go down the drain, life in tatters and had to change the way he went about life. That story ended with him being able to piece together his old DJ sets using the vibrations and wavelengths from the music. It might not have won an Oscars but its a decent film.
What is this Louder film all about then? I don’t know on what scale this is being produced as all I know about it at the moment is what the film makers have made available on their film web site. There is a brief description of what is in the film and a short trailer with comments from the likes of Gabriel & Dresdon and Markus Schulz.
How does one become a "Super Star DJ"? What goes into the production of a track? What does it take to run a successful record label? White Label Films has set out to answer these questions and many more in the new documentary film "LOUDER!". The reach of electronic music is rapidly growing throughout the globe yet the genre is often misunderstood and has remained underground here in the States. "LOUDER!" puts the faces to the infamous names of the world's best trance, progressive and house DJs/producers as we join them in the recording studios, the clubs and the festivals.
"LOUDER!" explores today's New York City dance scene as well as cities around the country and the upcoming 2007 Winter Music Conference in Miami. "LOUDER!" has been in production since January and is expected to wrap shooting by June with a Winter release date. The film is being produced independently by a group of NYC DJs and will be entered into local and international film festivals. Distribution is yet to be determined. SEE YOU IN MIAMI! White Label Films
The film has been in production since January and is slated for release before the end of the year but I'm not sure how accurate that is as like most things good things come to those who wait. The background nature of the film will definitely prove an interesting watch for those looking for an insight into the day to day life of a DJ and offers an insight into their feelings about the current state of music. The independent New York DJ's it states producing the film are unknown to me but I'm sure somebody knows something so if you do let the crew here know.
What stage the film is in at the moment is unclear but the trailer looks very invited so go and have a nosey over on the film web site which does have a few contact details from a few people involved with the film so if you want to offer help to the project or feel like putting on a big reel and popping it in cinemas worldwide pop them a note. I for one am very intrigued to see the finished film when it surfaces. You can be safe in the knowledge that Cascada won’t be features in the film or at least I hope not anyway.
