D Ramirez pops up with a double disc album featuring his latest productions, remixes and exclusive edits of current tracks and ones released in years gone by. Electro house meets techno elements in what I can firmly say is a cracking album!
He may have hair like a porn star but do not be fooled by D Ramirez adult like appearance as he is one the most talented producers to come out of Sheffield for a long time. You may remember him from such remixes as Roger Sanchez 'Lost' and his energetic remix of Ferry Corten's 'Junk'. This release compiles his own productions with the second disc being a full on mix of his older productions and remixes all blended together by his very good friend Kristoph.
DISC ONE
1. D Ramirez - "Burnin Up" (intro edit) 2. D Ramirez - "Freaque On" (MK & MTV edit) 3. D Ramirez - "La Discotek" (original mix edit) 4. Freezeframe - "The Rear" (original mix edit) 5. D Ramirez / Mark Knight - "System" (original mix edit) 6. D Ramirez / Mark Knight - "Colombian Soul" (original mix edit) 7. D Ramirez / James Mowbray - "The Day Hip Hop Died" (original mix edit) 8. D Ramirez - "Venus & Mars" (2005 mix edit) 9. D Ramirez / James Mowbray - "Time Fades Away" (original mix edit) 10. D Ramirez / Tom Stephan - "Shake It Baby" (original & Rene Amesz & Peter Gelderblom remix mashup) 11. D Ramirez / Dmitry Bobrov - "Pleasure Me" (original mix edit) 12. D Ramirez - "Are You Ready?" (Turbofunk mix edit) 13. D Ramirez - "More Than A Lot" (feat TC - dub mix)
DISC TWO
1. Max Linen - "Soulshaker" (Slaveshaker intro edit) 2. Deepgrove - "Acid House Music" (D Ramirez Trical mix - Soulshaker acappella) 3. Bobby Lorenz - "1995" (D Ramirez Technofunk mix) 4. Peace Division - "No More Subliminal Shit" (D Ramirez mix) 5. Man Linen - "Flashback" (D Ramirez mix) 6. Roger Sanchez - "Lost" (D Ramirez' Lost In Rave mix) 7. Bobby Lorenz - "Think" (D Ramirez vs Kristoph Stereowhore re-think) 8. Skeewiff - "Man Of Constant Sorrow" (D Ramirez mix) 9. Roog & Greg - "Uber" (D Ramirez mix - Kristoph '07 edit) 10. Plump DJs - "Electric Disco" (D Ramirez mix - Kristoph '07 edit) 11. Future Funk Squad - "Audio Damage" (D Ramirez mix) 12. Ferry Corsten - "Junk" (D Ramirez dub) 13. Noir - "My MTV" (D Ramirez' Evil Business mix - Kristoph '07 edit)
The first disc is a collection of D Ramirez very own artist productions. It starts off with his first ever release on a Label that now no longer exists but shows you the early sound he was trying to produce. Very much house in nature are his productions with various elements of tech and electro elements to create some funky and other down right dirty tracks. One of my favourites fro the first disc features vocals from D Remirex himself with the very catchy 'La Discotek'. It's got a killer groove on there that pops out and invites you to get a shake on. Most of the records here are ones release from this year but his first record dates back to 2001. He is a man of many styles with his productions but does create some real killer grooves in his tracks. There are a few collaborations in there with one being with James for the track 'Time Fades Away'. You could try and slide all the records into a style but its the quality of them that matters and they are that. If your like me and have not heard much of his own productions you should really check them out as they are very good.
The second disc is a full on mix of his remixes put together by Kristoph. It's full of surprises and starts off with a track that made Pete Tong's Essential New Tune list back in 2002. It's a record I never knew he produced but is penned in as one of my favourites. That is of course his remix of 'Soulshacker' by Max Linen. If I was creaming myself with that one his remix of Deepgroove's 'Acid House Music' added extra cream. One of his best remixes in my opinion but I would say that as its an all time favourite track of mine. In all fairness I did prefer this mixed disc to the productions. The mixing and record selection is top draw with one banging track after another. Not so much banging as in Hard House but banging as in extremely good. That good old favourite 'Lost' remix he did of Roger Sanchez's record is in here and its an excellent remix. One of his finest I think. There is not really a bad track in here as each one has its own groove and sounds that appeal to the ear.
Conclusion:
This is an album to get in my opinion. It's a great collection of Mr Ramirez's production work to date and the second disc mix of his remixes is gold on a CD, I really enjoyed that disc. A great trip through house grooves inspired by electro, trance, tribal and dirty grooves. Go buy it.
