Who is Mandy Reid then? A new producer from Ireland churning out some very pumping records of late and here's hew new one Tornado with Noise 4 Fun on the flip.
You may remember her from a release under the name of Armandi on Bonzai a few months ago called 'Up The Tempo'. This time she is back on Dutch label Reset for her latest two track release. Her production style keeps it simple with very catchy and well worked melodies and patterns that just seem to be nice to the ear. This release is more of the same.
:: Tornado :: Noise 4 Fun
Lets start things off with a Tornado. The beat is simple to start off with and sets out a good tone for what is to come. No great peaking uplifting melodies in here but a simple bass groove in the background with the beat and kick flowing along. In pops a filtered piano style leading riff over the beat, very simple but it works to create a great flowing pattern of beats as another riff comes in on top of that with symbol kicks keeping the tempo high. The beat patterns in here are what gets you ear interested, it has that simple old style sound about it. No surprise Paul van Dyk's been popping this in his sets of late. The track does break all the way down to a slightly euphoric echo flow with a small string that changes tone slipping in and out. This is the calm before the storm as it keeps on flowing until the string is left repeating and the deep groove returns with the beat. The beat is hard and punchy and works well with the groove. Great riffs in here and its simplicity makes it a great record in my ears.
Noise 4 Fun is more of a progressively building track but does keep to the same kind of style of Tornado. The deep punchy beat flows along with symbol kicks and quick flange changes with stutters along the way for good measure. There is more of a pace about this track with its beats and flow. Simple patterns create that pumping vibe with it and the sounds in there are pleasing to the ear. A good filler track more than anything.
Conclusion:
Tornado is an excellent track and it does not surprise me that the likes of Paul van Dyk and Eddie Halliwell have been banging this one through tweeters worldwide. The riff in it will put a smile on your face and make you want to hear more music in the same style of this. As with her other releases under Armandi this should be another one to add to your collection.
