Here's a good compilation to pop in the Christmas stocking this year with Ministry of Sound's latest collection of classic records that have made an impact over the 17 years they have been going.
Compilations like these do seem to appear to many times at the moment but the positive thing about collections like these is it does act as an education tool for those looking to explore the god side of dance music. With so much crap out there being pumped out in local clubs all over the globe and very much here in the UK unless you go to a decent club night or find yourself a nice underground venue people lose track of what good dance much is. Ministry have been going for some years and no doubt each record featured in here has been played on their sound systems at some point or another.

There are lots of tracks to have a look at in here then. As with most compilations of these you can't expect a logical flow of one track after the other mixed together like a journey. It's just a case of mostly cut mixing the next track in. There are a few old gems in here and what some might say are commercial dance records. That may be so, commercial in the fact that they are all pretty chart friendly but not to the extent of the crap artists like Ultrabeat and Cascada turn out. Sometimes you wish 2 Unlimited would make a comeback so they could show them what a decent cheesy dance track sounds like.
The main thing this compilation brings back are a lot of memories as for me growing up these were the records that got me hooked into the music I love and listen to today. Some might be a little on the cheesy side like Alex Party and The Nightcrawlers but for those who remember the Dance Zone series that came out on Tape you will have heard those back in the day.
There is a point with albums like these are the big names do seem to be releasing them far to often. This is really a Ministry compilation from a year ago with a different track order and new cover. Gatecrasher, Godskitchen and Cream are all guilty of the same crime. There is so much new music out there bang some of that on a compilation CD and don’t release compilations like these so often as they just flood the market and people get sick of the tracks.
Although the title suggest you might find some pretty recent records i here there are little to be found aside from the very popular 'Put Your hands Up' and Stonebridge's 'Put Em High'. Its pretty much a collection of popular dance records from the years gone by with a mixture of house, trance and old acid house tracks all in there. A little like a selection box, there is a bit of everything in here. The problem being with those at Christmas time, there is just too many of them.
Conclusion:
Pretty poorly mixed together and not really in any logical flow if this album did not have some decent records on it I'm sure I would not be the only one to slam it to high heaven. It's got a collection of records that some will love and some will hate. If you own a compilation like this and judging by the many of them released in recent years you wont see the point in buying this as the tracks will be on the ones you have. It would make a nice gift for those young pups that need a helping hand discovering good brands of dance music so it serves at least one purpose there.
