This one caught my eye this week with a tasty looking two track release from Joint Operations Centre. The man behind the tech style is John O'Callgahan , Mannix and Stenna's new alias which continues to pump out quality records.
The use of alias in dance music is rife and it's only with a little bit of research you find out the real artist behind the name. Joint Operations Centre is a three way project created by John O' Callgahan, Mannix and Stenna and this is their first proper release under the name on Captivating Sounds. It's a tech trance joyride with two tracks to choose from both offering different elements to sit back and enjoy.
:: Shortwave :: Bass Thing
When you listen to Shortwave the kind of sound it has is very much that of Randy Katana but with a sprinkle of extra ingredients. The build up uses those same tech style synths, deep thudding beat and echo patterns in the background. The lead up on here reminded me of Randy's 'In Silence' remix a few years ago as its got the same kind of vibe to it. The main riff in here is what you will be coming back for again and again. The track teases you with a little break before it drops to add to the anticipation. The sounds build from the background with the kicks fading out but the beat still pumping. That beat fades away to leave the riff building. All the sounds drop as the riff hits. It's big and when the beat drops back it hits home with a bang. This is an excellent worked tech monster that should set three big rooms alight with people going mad for it.
Bass Thing is a different monster with its own. It kicks off with a thunderous beat and bass line to compliment it. The beat double beats after every seven drops and in comes kicks and slaps to compliment it. The start of the track is loud with the sounds building and beat dropping off. A short shuffle with the kicks and what drops is a speaker breaking bass line which if it was Churchill car insurance it would be screaming YES! It's that main riff that pulsates through the track that makes it for me. Short breaks with a short melody slipping its way into the track on the break that builds back into the main thunderous bass line. It's called Bass Thing for a reason and that’s because of the deep thumping bass style the track creates. I like this track; it’s a bit different to what I've heard recently and gives you a buzz when that deep riff hits your chest.
Conclusion:
Here you have two corking tracks by my reckoning. If I were to be negative I'd be slating it for being Randy Katana's style in different shoes but what the guys behind this track have done is take those shoes and polished them up to an eye shattering shine. I'd have a say Shortwave would be the track most top jocks will be supporting here but check out Bass Thing, its mega!
