A fresh face for the Captured crew, In Progress brings some silken trance and progressive moments to the label with plenty of remixes from Mike Shiver, John Huijbers, Koris Vs. Djule and Omnia...
:: In Progress - St. Petersberg EP :: Captured Digital :: CAPDIG003
1) Crossover (Mike Shiver's Catching Sun Edit) Mike Shiver's beautiful 'Catching Sun' trancey sound is clearly evident in this first interpretation of 'Crossover', the first of the two tracks which make up this EP. There are soft pads layered nicely in the background, a gentle melodic lead and there is also a fiery and energetic edge which spices the production up in the early and final stages. The middle section sees a more traditional melody emerge from a breakbeat passage within the breakdown. Whilst the melody isn't groundbreaking, it is highly emotional and very light and uplifting, making the overall feeling of the track very easy going and highly enjoyable.
2) Crossover (John Huijbers Remix) John Huijbers goes for a much deeper, progressive sound much like you'd hear on labels like Anjunadeep - a chunky beat backed by a rhythmic bass with a huge, rumbling presence. The melody here is present, but in a more minimal form aside from one short section where some pads are allowed in to smooth the sound out. Other than that, this track is all about that big, gutsy bassline which is the main driving force of all the groove here.
3) Avalanche (Original Mix) The first of the three versions of 'Avalanche' kicks off with the Original Mix. There's much more energy here created by a fast paced and pumping kick along with a very active and energetic bassline. The uplifting and emotive melody is pushed out by a combination of delicate synths and some much broader and icey big room trance synths. This provides a very wide range of sound for the melody to work from and because of that it owns the track with a solid presence. Quality trance.
4) Avalanche (Koris Vs. Djule Remix) Koris and Djule have attempted to combine the melodic and progressive elements here. There's a distinct rhythmic bassline along with trademark progressive 'hollow' sounding synths knocking a few interspersed notes around to create deep atmospherics. However, after the breakdown, the melody is used and played by an icey synth. The combination of this synth and the backing notes mentioned earlier actually works really well here and creates a distant and spacious soundscape.
5) Avalanche (Omnia Remix) For the final remix on this so far great EP, Omnia takes things in a truly deep, progressive direction. Thick Coldharbour style basses and echoed, ghostly synths make up the bulk of this deep, calming remix.

Conclusion:
This is another strong release from Captured on the digital section of their label. Each track on here is robustly produced and carries it's own merits. The range of styles and sounds available means that this release can easily cater for a wide range of listeners and DJs.
