Here is the debut album by Ernesto & bastian! The theme makers for the massive Trance Energy event last week with their single 'Thrill'. Twelve fresh records and an update of an old gem make this one an album to have a nosy at.
If you were wondering what the Ernesto & Bastian guys were up to in the long wait since their new single 'Thrill' came out a month or so ago then wonder no more as they were creating this, their debut artist album. They have created an audio treat with this one with a mixture of vocals, tech driven melodies and some seriously cool grooves to bring their Trance sound to life over twelve excellent tracks. I would say if you have been peeking into the play lists of big DJ's for the past few months some of the tracks on here will sound familiar. There were a few surprises for me in here as I can finally put a name to the record at last. Anyway, here's the rundown on what’s on the album.
1: Thrill 2: Sound of Soul 3: Dive in Your Love 4: The Double Life of Mr Shorofsky 5: As The Shadows 6: Mexican Caravan 7: Ein 8: Stranger in Paradise 9: Remind 10: Dark Side of The Moon 11: UM (Dub) 11: Super Jupiter
This year should be a great one for new artist albums. This is one that poped up as a surprise to me as I did not know the Ernesto and Bastian guys (Edwin Koelewijn & Ernesto van der Meij) were planning an album for this year. It's all fallen into place though and what they have created here was a joy to listen to.
With Trance Energy being the biggest and from what I understand the only major Trance only festival of the year its official theme has always brought about extra hype with it. There have been some dodgy ones in years gone by which thankfully are out of the memory but this years was a corker. The tough tech nature of Thrill was the perfect big room track to kick start the festival with its massive stadium riff. It is with that track that they kick off this album and its a welcoming start.
This album is no one hit wonder with a few fillers piled in to cash in on all the Trance Energy success with 'Thrill' by any means. There is a lot of variation in here with the sound of tracks over the album. Uplifting, catchy, vocal, techy, moody melodies and tasty strings all make this a bit of a variety pack, like the little cereal ones your mum used to feed you for breakfast.
May highlights in here would be As The Shadows which features a male main vocal with female vocals creating a little melody in the background behind them. The track is full of punch and for one reason or other just appeals to the ear. What follows that track Mexican Caravan is a very dark sounding track with a deep bass driven groove and soothing guitar tickled strings floating over the top. The mood it creates is a deep one but in a strange way almost groovy with it. Uplifting fans can be sure to find who I think did the vocals on Dark Side of the moon providing the hook with the vocals on Stranger in Paradise. That ones a very bright and energetic uplifting track helped by the vocal and complimented by a killer breakdown.
Quite possibly the best track I think on the whole album is a quirky one called Rewind. It's got an aggressive pumping beat and the melody going on with that banging beat is just electric and in your face. The strings in there should have your ears popping to attention as they are nicely worked in. I just hope they bring out those tracks as singles as I think they are the strongest records in here.
The whole album as a whole is very good, no filler tracks to be found on here although the running time is just under and hour so my only grumble would have been to put longer tracks in there as some are only 3 minutes long. Even so they are all very radio friendly so stations take note, cut the bollocks with the pop and bang something for the dance community in there. All the tracks are unmixed though which I prefer with artist albums rather than the mixed style, with a few exceptions.
Conclusion:
This is a superb album in my humble opinion. Aside from 'Dark Side Of The Moon' its all new material in here which for an artist album is refreshing. Some can just be a collection of old hits with one or two new singles on it. One to buy and enjoy! Good work Ernesto & Bastian!
