The very first release on Paul van Dyk's brand spanking new Vandit Digital label is from the very talented Tom Colontonio. Tom looks to build on a great 2007 with more pumping musical joy.
This time last year not many people will have heard of Tom Colontonio. His previous alias DJ Tommyboy would possibly be a name you might have heard floating around but even so he was not as popular name as he is right now. The mighty John Askew took a shine to his music and it seems Paul van Dyk has two with this two track release being the first on his brand new digital label, Vandit Digital.
:: Modern Day Madness :: Omega Thursday
Two very different records on this release from Tom with Modern Day Madness being a real gritty tough piece of driving trance. I first heard this on a radio show a few weeks ago and I think its one of the best productions by Tom so far. The track begins with a deep and beefy beat with what I can only describe as wet sounding scuff's floating along the bass line. The deep grumbling bass driven build up really does it for me I must say. The build up which uses those bass driven riffs, lead up to the main melody. The keys on the melody feed in from the background and start to build as the track cuts down a little. It's not long before it's back again with the main key driven melody nicely worked and uplifting in feel. It comes around again after a short break and pounds at you again. The sounds in this one really work well together with nothing seemingly out of place. Cracking track in my book.
After the energetic fun with Modern Day Madness things get chilled out a little bit with Omega Thursday. In some ways it reminded me of old Solarstone tracks but with a heavier beat. You should get the general feel of it. Think gorgeous guitar strings with uplifting back end melodies with this track. The strings build up early in this one with bass changes adding to the uplifting nature of it. The chords swing and strings flutter away until the beat and kicks cut off to start the main breakdown in the track. Sweeping pads swoop as the sounds cut and the guitar strings start to play as those pads in the background build up with a melody that feeds in the guitar strings once again. Panning drum roll please and the beat pumps its way back into the track and your left with a relaxing uplifting guitar driven melody.
Conclusion:
Vandit really do come up with the business on each release and this Digital arm in what I consider to be one of the best dance music labels on the planet will add more electronic quality to an already outstanding back catalogue. This first two track release from Tom gets things started in great fashion. One tough gritty uplifting trance monster and a chilled guitar driven uplifter are a great way to kick start the first release on the new label.
