Abel Ramos continues his techy onslaught onto Reset Records with 'Jakarta'. Groove Garcia provides a dark remix...
:: Abel Ramos - Jakarta :: Reset Records :: RS033
1) Jakarta (Original Mix) 'Jakarta' has an instantly tribal-tech thanks to its jittery percussion and huge snare rolls, which are very reminiscent of the Katana sound. There are three main elements which make up the bulk of this track. The first is the simple, unrelenting beat. On a big system this would simply pound away, creating a pretty much unstoppable driving force. Second is the bass - big, raw and gutsy. It's the very basic end of big tech basses. Along with the beat it's raw, it;s simple but it would be hard to resist on a giant sound system. The third is the rhythmic/melodic side of things. A simple, stabby lead puts out a rhythmic hook until after the breakdown, at which point the bass takes the reigns and uses its raw power to drive things home. Very basic, very simple, but dirty as hell and powerful all the same.
2) Jakarta (Groove Garcia Dark Revision) I really, really like this remix! It has an entirely different feel to the original. It is based on smooth sounds, harmonic pads and gentle, much softer basses. The beat is still punchy and provides the right amount of kick to keep things moving at a decent pace. The bass, as I mentioned before is rounded and soft, providing an almost infinite amount of extra depth to the production. The first few minutes are spent in a kind of prog-tech world, where all of these excellent sounds plus a load more blips, bleeps and sfx are all growing and culminating to a great climax. A short break pushes you further into the track where there's a stabbed rhythmic lead and loads more quirky little elements to keep the track fresh and new. A blissful break is used to prepare you for one last deep and driving session. I love everything about this one, the sounds are wicked, the structure works brilliantly and keeps you guessing and the overall feeling is damn good!
