Another CD review; this time from Harthouse, a label which goes deep into the roots of German Techno. This is a long awaited re-release of the tracks which made Hardfloor famous back in the day.
An album, with 11 tracks of sychronized 303s and special effects hits the stores during this month, with 11 of the classic tracks which made Hardfloor aka Oliver Bonzio and Ramon Zenker famous back in the day when German Techno was gracing the floors of Dorian Gray, Tresor, etc (and still is). Harthouse has been releasing gems of acid trancers and techno records including the likes of Sven Vath, Barbarella, Resistance D, Marco Zafferano, and of course, Hardfloor.
Containing 11 tracks:
1. Intro Maze 2. Fried Laces 3. Asbestos in Obsterics 4. Reverberate Opinion 5. Kangaroos & Bubbles 6. Strawberry Maze 7. Mahogany Roots 8. Mustrad Cornflakes 9. The Last Marshmellow Machine 10. Mahogany Roots (Work Remix) 11. Kangaroos & Bubbles (Armando's Darkside Remix)
Some of these tracks have never seen a release for years, and this re-release brings back memories from the acid trance / techno days of 93-95.
After Hardfloor was defined by their distinct 303 pulsative sounds, they went on to produce around the 303 style, filling dance floors with their tracks played from Oliver Klein, Sven Vath, Oliver Lieb, Paul van Dyk, et al.
To me, this album tells some kind of story, where it builds progressively in a way for the first 3-4 tracks, before letting rip through the rest of the album; with my personal favourite right at the end. The Armando Remix, brings out more elements of Kangaroos and Bubbles than heard before.
Since the original 1994 release of this album, there has been a revamping of the 303 sound in this to make it cleaner, and better defined, and tracks 10 and 11 have been added in as a 2002 only.
For those of you still into the sound of the acid trance / techno era of the mid 90s, but definitely a strong album, featuring the best of Hardfloor.
