The 8th edition of the Monster Sampler series, which brings new names and quality to the fore. The really exciting news though is that it's on this release that the highly anticipated and much hyped 'Hydrosphere' from Hydro Aquatic sees the light of day...!
:: Monster Sampler 08 :: Monster Tunes :: MONSAMP008
1) Hydro Aquatic - Hydrosphere (Original Mix) This next release on the reliable Monster Sampler series showcases some really promising talents. First up is the young Polish producer who goes by the name of Hydro Aquatic. Simply put he has delivered a storming and delicious slice of sheerly uplifting and euphoric trance. I can see this easily becoming a mainstay in many DJs CD wallets over the next coming months, and here's why! From the off, the clean sounds, eerie atmospheric pads and invigorating beat reminds of the Nitrous Oxide sound which is rocking at the moment, so it's instantly good news for this track. As it develops, the bass thickens well, the pads grow and a melody is beautifully crafted from a combination of synth and piano. Even these early stages are spine tinglingly beautiful and I warn you, things have only just got started. The breakdown is where the major developments of this track take place as there have only been hints of melody so far. What rises up from the depths is a quality, massive trance synth with all the required uplifting properties you could ask for. On top of that, the melody it conjures up is pure hands in the air, emotional, euphoric trance. There's a joy behind the sound as it powers out from the breakdown and it's simply irresistible. The synths and piano combine later on to form one of the most amazing melodic soundscapes I've heard in a long while. Moments in clubs don't get much better than this, it's an amazing track and I love it. Breathtaking, a classic in the making. What's even better is that there's more to come from Hydro Aquatic in the pipeline (check out his MySpace!!) so I can't wait for that...
2) DNS Project Pres. Whiteglow - Airbourne (Original Mix) Track 2 sees the first track on Monster Tunes from DNS Project under a new Whiteglow guise. This one is following up from the huge success of 'Invisible Touch' which was released back in 2007. The Whiteglow alias initally takes on a lighter sound than what we've heard from DNS Project. An easy bass drives delicate synths and a chopped up rhythmic vocal early on and right into the breakdown. What lies post-breakdown though is much different. The sound toughens up and gets really dark and gritty as a grinding lead takes over. Things transform back into gentle melody though just as suddenly as they came around. An different effort in terms of the style/structure combo and it'll be interesting to see how well it's taken up.
3) Timo Pralle - Midnight Strings (Original Mix) Finally, track 3 sees a brand new artist, Timo Pralle, give a taste of what he has to offer the scene with a driving euphoric number. Those words 'driving' and 'euphoric' are pretty much the most accurate description you can give to this track. The drive is inherent with the precision defined slapping beats, clicky percussion and bass chord changes deeper than the Pacific. The euphoria just flows effortlessly from the soaring, big-room trance synths which power across this production and the gentle synths which lace the upper regions with remarkable elegance. Quite the standard trancer in terms of structure, but the sounds and instruments are crafted and put together so well, this one should prove to be very popular. Love it!
Conclusion:
A great selection of tunes on this latest installment of the Monster Sampler series. Timo Pralle's 'Midnight Strings' is a textbook example of big room trance but the absolute gem here has to be Hydro Aquatic's 'Hydrosphere' - just mind blowing ultimate trance in the purest of forms. Don't miss it.
