The mighty Gatecrasher presents its first album of 2008 with a brand new double disc compilation mixed by Ferry Corsten. None of that classic nonsense to be found here just new pumping fresh trance to enjoy...
In the late 90's the Gatecrasher compilations were the best around, full of pumping house and trance that littered the clubs across the globe. In recent years the compilations have become a little bit repetitive. Drawn into the whole 'Classic' obsession a few years ago with one compilation after the other of tracks you've heard before a thousand times. There were so many around and Gatecrasher were one of the culprits, although the new owners Ministry of Sound were the people to blame looking to make an easy buck with the same records.
The scene has been crying out for a new Gatecrasher album that returns to its roots and offers the latest club music over a two disc compilation for years. They have finally taken note and at last we have it, a good Gatecrasher compilation. The focus is back on Trance and there is plenty of that to be found over the two discs.

That dutch genious that is Ferry Corsten who you might remember mixed the superb Trance Nation series on Ministry of Sound years ago is back doing what he does best; mixing uplifting trance. I would say Ferry had an open track list with this compilation as he has put some real juicy uplifting records in here. You might think Ferry's sound has changed over the years to a more deeper house vibe but I would say that’s just his producing style looking to venture into more venues than his taste changing.
The first disc here brings together some fine arrangements of music. One of his Flashover Recordings label talens P.A.F.F.'s 'There is No Spoon' gets the heat rising as the disc starts off on a bit tech driven house vibe with the first few tracks. Deep pounding beats with dirty hooks lead up into the uplifting joyride that is to follow Maor Levi's 'Shapes' lifting things up a touch. The overall pace of the first disc sets thing up for the euphoric feast that is the second.
This disc is all about Trance at its uplifting pounding best with one massive breakdown leading into melody after melody of mass proportions. Fantastic track selection all the way through here and smooth mixing to put you at ease while listening. There are some fine tracks in here with 'Something For Your Mind' and Paul Miller's remix of 'Falling of Stars' being two great tracks to start and end a compilation. It begins leaving you expecting more and finishes leaving you wanting more!
Conclusion:
This is quite a fine compilation by Gatecrasher and one that has been overdue for a long time. I'm all for a classic but its like pizza you get sick of it if you have it everyday. This one is back to form with two discs brimming with quality trance and a nice offerings of style with the two mixes. This is one you should buy.
