A new name, Mike Storm, appears on the quietly consistent Solaris Recordings. Check this one out though, as it appears to be offering up two rather special bits of trance...
:: Mike Storm - Airflow EP :: Solaris :: SLRS021
1) Airflow 'Airflow' begins simply enough with an easy beat and a decent spread of percussion. It demonstrates itself after a minute though as it kicks in a really cool and groovy bassline. It has great rhythm and follows a truly pleasing chord progression. Subtle strings line the background and as things move on, delicate synths play melodies which dance over the top of the pleasant layer of bass and strings. The breakdown is long and carries some great atmospheric feelings. A piano joins the music and adds a fantastic element to the melodies before a spine tingling climax drop the track off into full flow. What makes this point so special is the thick layer of pads which envelope the track. They're beautiful, they're melodic and they allow the track to simply glide with a blissfull elegance. This is a wonderful, feel-good track.
2) Critical Hit 'Critical Hit' also leads by way of bassline. Here though it's a bit stronger, with a much more commanding bassline and darker, grittier chord progression. After the initial breakdown, we see pads fill out the track - again a wonderful sound but here the mood is much different. It's not sad, but more a determined and earnest feel.
Conclusion:
A great release on Solaris by Mike Storm. Both tracks really are excellent - while similarly constructed they each offer a totally different set of feelings and emotions. Quality trance!
