The latest instalment of the Housexy series sees the light of day. It's now on its tenth release so it must be doing something right. We aim to find out what...

This would be the first time I've sat down and gone through a Housexy compilation which is now in its tenth edition. If the title of the album is anything to go by this should be audio adult entertainment with tissues at the ready. The nine compilations before have been a collection of the smoothest peak time house that pumps around clubs allover the globe. They have done rarther well for themselfs as this year proves with this release and a club night over in Ibiza. Housexy resident Richard Murray is the man resposible for mixing together this collection of very fine sexy house.

The sign of a good compilation is always the number of tracks for me. Unless it’s a short cut of each your after you don’t want to see a massive list of records hastily mixed into each other with no structure or thought put into it. That's not the case here with a good helping of tracks on each disc, not to many and not to few. The first disc is jam packed with funky bass lines, smooth house beats and catchy grooves which bring delight to the ear. The disc starts off with a relaxed piano house offering from Groove Armada with their vocal licked 'Love Sweet Sound' mixed by Mark Knight and Funkagenda. It starts the mix off in a positive and funky style with a soothing groove fluttering throughout the track. The track that puts some peak time sound in the mix is 'Work For Love' with it's string based groove that reminds me of Joey Negro's popular mainstream tracks and local bars with delicate mood lighting. The heat here for me picks up with Warren Clarke's 'Moving Out' which has a real deep dirty feel to it complimented by pumping through the track giving it that up tempo feeling. It's dirty bass lines ahoy with two straight Vandalism remixes with a killer piano riff with 'I Believe'. Track of the disc for me goes to Bart B More's mix of 'Head To Toe' by Seamus Haji. It's got a really quirky main riff that’s got a real distinctive hook to it and just sounds great how its messed around with.

Can you expect more of the same with the second disc then? Not quite as the pace picks up with even more dirty bass lines and a few tracks you may have heard before. The opening sound on the discs is very piano driven with vocal sprinkles for the topping. Deep beats and flowing piano riffs pulsate through the first four tracks with a real mainstream offering from the Freemasons you will have sure to have heard battering the speakers at your local bar down town. Fedde Le Grand keeps his hands in his pocket for his 'Get This Feeling' track offering a more perky groove and distorted vocal. That man Warren Clarke springs up again with a good track by remixing Ron Carroll's 'Walking Down The Street'. It's got a stop start feel with attached with but keeps a flow going with a bright beat. Armand van Helden rips off a sample that I can't remember where from and pumps some vocals into it with his Je T'aime track. It's a nice funky track though which leads into a brand new remix of Utah Saints old classic 'Something Good'. If you've heard the new mixes of that which I'm sure you have as they have been getting radio plays left right and centre you might have thought they have just put a new coat of paint on what is a fine original track. The Ian Carey mix still has the piano sequence that made the record so good in the first place and it sits nicely within this mix. The back end of this mix goes deeper with its bass lines as the nice rumbling bass roll in 'Shogun' proves. It's a different disc compared to the first with how it tails into that dirty groove nature at the end.

Conclusion:
A very welcome introduction to the Housexy series and if your looking for that peak time house sound pumping around the local bars at weekends then this one is for you. The mixing is faultless all the way through and some very groovy catchy tracks to enjoy. Even if you like your music a bit faster this is a nice change and a good selection of good house music.
