The ever prolific N20 teams up with Cell X to produce two invigorating pieces of trance ready to hit us from the Monster Force label...
:: N20 Vs. Cell X - 414 / Alive :: Monster Force :: FORCE020
1) 414 Whenever N20 is involved, you'd be right to expect something with melodical strength. Where Monster Force shows its face, you'd be looking for something powerful and energetic. Well what N20 and Cell have come up with here fits both of those criteria and the result is something rather electrifying! The intro is nicely weighted with a flowing, rolling bassline and there's a growing synth presence which increases towards the breakdown which readies you for the onslaught of the killer melody. The melody itself is restrained and softly played momentarily until it is buoyed by some icey pads into a buildup and then a release. What follows next is a passage of uninterrupted trance energy. It's pretty relentless and just when you're expecting a change, a new level of energy is provided by a set of soaring strings - exactly what the track needed at exactly the right moment. A powerful, rampant track which is sure to ignite the dancefloor.
2) Alive 'Alive' puts most of its focus onto the lead synth, whose melody follows a chord progression, making it flow and seem more drawn out rather than being hook based. After the breakdown, the melody develops further. The lead synth is joined after a short while by a delicate backing synth, then shortly after this a piano joins the fray and sprinkles a few choice notes over the top. This 3 part melody mixture works really well, creating a great range of dynamics and making the track interesting to listen to all the way through. Not as fiery as '414', but high quality all the same!
Conclusion:
A great pair of tracks from N20 and Cell X. The energy present in '414' will take some beating whilst the melodic combinations in 'Alive' will bring you much joy. As well as on CD and in digital formats, it should also be noted that this release is also available on vinyl only from Hard To Find Records - don't miss these!
