Forthcoming on Flashover Recordings are a few choice picks from Ferry Corsten's last artist album 'Loud, Electronic, Ferocious' in there full length, unmixed glory which should please those looking to inject a bit of ferry into their sets...
It's been nearly two years since Ferry unloaded with his second artist album 'L.E.F' following on from his first album release 'Right of Way' which saw Ferry bring a new style to the table. The good thing about the album was it was full of great Ferry tracks. The bad thing about it was they were all mixed together over one CD and I dont think they release any samplers for it. Two years on and the wait is over, or at least for six of the records featured on the album. The good news is they have picked the six best records on it and present them in there full glory.
:: Are You Ready :: I Love You :: L.E.F. :: Galaxia :: Possesion :: Cubikated
You can't knock a DJ for wanting to keep his own tracks to himself for their own exclusive use in sets and such but there's the old saying, It's good to share or at least that’s what I was taught at school. L.E.F. was a great follow up from 'Right of Way' for Ferry with his tough new sound returning again with fresh new tracks and a few cheeky reworks. Two of the records that I found inspiring and bang on have finally been unreleased in unmixed form.
Think back to the early days of Dance music to the old house sound and rave music of the late 80's and 90's and you will have surly come across a record by 808 State called Cubik. Ferry certainly has and he did his own version of the track for his album and called it 'Cubikated'. It sticks pretty much to the original's down right filthy riff and adopts the sounds in there but just puts a tint of pace on there and a Ferry style beat. It was one of my favourite tracks from the album and of al time. The main big riff that pumps in is a real dance floor killer.
That old balearic classic he originally produced under his Moonman alias gets a Ferry makeover two with the stunning Galaxia which has one of the most moving melodies I've ever heard in a trance record. His remake for this is again sticking to the old tracks formula but putting Ferry’s new style of sound on it. The softer bass and light kicks that feature in there are a nice touch but its still got that epic melody that oozes emotion and really makes this a great record.
If your going to pick a few records to release as an EP from an album then Flashover set the standard with picking the best ones. Ferrys production work is excellent as the electro tinged sounds in L.E.F. and Are You Ready with both producing quirky sounding melodies. I'd just buy this release for Galaxia and Cubikated as they would be my picks for the cream amongst the six on offer here.
Conclusion:
It’s only taken a few years but you could say this is the sampler that should have been released with the album at the time. Mixed albums are a nice touch but those addicts in us always pick out a few tracks you just want the full version two. Great release this picking out six gems from an album you might have forgot about. Great reminder and a super set of ammunition form DJ's who want to put some Ferry class in their sets.
