Gareth Emery continues his run of chunky, electric trance on Five AM...
:: Gareth Emery - This Is That :: Five AM :: FAM075
1) This Is That 'This Is That' is a rhythmic beast. Easily fueled by a punchy beat and a skipping, dancing percussion, deep and groovy synth basses push out a catchy rhythm. Electro style hits can be heard accentuating the background, giving that itchy and fidgety electro feel. In contrast to this, delicate arpeggiated synths and a fuzzy chord progression are filtered into the mix too. A sampled and cut up vocal sample is used as the 'centre-piece', if you like. You can't tell what it;s saying, but that doesn't matter as it's a great addictive sample which has been cut into a rhythm of its own, adding to the overall gist of this piece. Also, watch out for a trademark Emery breakbeat breakdown in the middle of the track - lovely!
Conclusion:
Love it or hate it, 'elec-trance' does have its place, and Gareth Emery seems to be pretty good at it, so give this one a listen.
