The newly formed Echelon Records from Finland now has a few releases available from some very promising artists. The first you'll see here is by Ima'gin. Expect gentle, melodic trance but watch out for tougher, darker sounds in the remix from Tempo Giusto...
:: Ima'gin - Requiem For An Angel :: Echelon Records :: ER002
1) Requiem For An Angel (Original Mix) Haunting synths echoed by a distant piano and well placed fx set the scene for this production. As the percussion and bass hits, you get a sense of a really accomplished piece very early on. Some strings make themselves very clearly heard after the track slides easily into a breakdown. Haunting chords take on an orchestral sound and guide you through a deep and rich soundscape with some wonderful melodic turns and well placed note changes. Then it's back to the solid main body of the track for some more of that haunting melody backed up by a further developed chord progression. A highly enjoyable track!
2) Requiem For An Angel (Tempo Giusto Remix) Tempo Giusto has employed a much tougher beat and a raw, grinding bassline. These gritty sounds can seem a bit much initially, but if you give the track chance to develop and evolve, they are soon softened by some rich and spacey synths. The bassline even gives way totally in the breakdown and allows the synths (and some strings) to take over for the orchestral melody which we heard in the Original Mix. Soon after though it's (literally) back to the grind - but again give it some time as the trance elements ease their way in to create something much more smooth and flowing.
Conclusion:
Nice tracks from Ima'gin - the Original Mix carries my favour with its haunting melody and dreamy breakdown. Tempo Giusto's remix is a bold attempt but give it a chance for it to shine.
