Cream's kicked off its Ibiza club nights and bringing you the sound from the club to your own front room is the brand new Ibiza compilation. This year there is a change of pilot as the mighty Paul van Dyk replaces Eddie Halliwell to put together two CD's of audio orgasmic joy...
Here it is! Paul van Dyk's first compilation since he brought us the Politics of Dancing 2 and what better company to release it with that Cream. He's been resident at their Thursday nights in Ibiza for quite a few years now and is the worlds a best DJ according to DJ Mag. He's just finished a massive tour promoting his last artist album 'In Between' and has a full line-up of gigs throughout the summer period. The last two Cream compilations have been mixed by Eddie Halliwell and both of those were fantastic compilations featuring Eddie's choppy and pumping style of mixing.
Paul van Dyk is very firmly in charge of this two disc compilation mix and it’s the perfect warm up or warm down for those crazy nights out and about.

Ever since this compilation got announced I had a feeling it would be something very special indeed. Paul's way of mixing these days if quite complex to those not know what equipment and tools he uses. His live sets are unique as they come with him playing his own melodies live at the moment they come in, fusing sounds together and chopping up samples to create really stand apart records.
That way of mixing is why you will find so many tracks over the two disc compilation. The first disc is house driven with elements of techno and funky stuff thrown in. It's one big mash up of sounds in essence with records sounded different from their original birth. Paul's edited and moved things around to create an unexpected listening experience. You think here comes a certain section of a track, but its not its just a sample of it put in there. It really does work on the first disc with some great mixed and arrangements. The mix does leave you wanting more from each record with the first disc. There are lots of new fresh sounds with an especially funky version of Dj Simi & Marotta - My House which got my attention.
The second disc is pure main room Paul van Dyk. The first disc takes on the house approach with the second disc being a full blown Trance music orgy and makes you feel like you are there watching him live. There were a few tracks in there I had not heard of by name but after seeing his live set at Gatecrasher in June the sound brought back instant memories. Super8 & Tab's new record Elektra is uplifting to the max and one of the highlights for the second disc. It's big room breakdown trance with an epic melody that gets the hairs standing up. The mix is as you would expect, banging from start to finish with the pace picking up notably for Giuseppe Ottaviani's remix of Jose Amnesia - Follow Me with the keen ear noticed the moment Paul pitched it up a bit. It's a nice touch how he winds it up for one of the best tracks on the compilation. This was another record I heard live and almost wet my pants over. One superb mix from start to finish and what you would expect from one of the most talented and best Trance music DJ's on the planet.
Conclusion:
Without any question this is one of the best compilations this year and no surprise to be honest. I like the two different styles Paul has used in the two discs as it gives the compilation that little more life and fun. I'll be playing this one well past the summer. Just go and buy it!
