With a previous release on Monster Pure late last year, Ehren Stowers has followed it up on the same label with more epic trance in the form of this double track release...
:: Ehren Stowers - Cold Choas / The First Sun :: Monster Pure :: PURE019
1) Cold Chaos 'Cold Chaos' sports a soft kind of overall sound. The beats are rounded, the bass is soft and flowing, the percussion isn't intrusive at all and the synths and surrounding pads are all soft and smooth. Really flowing and generally pleasant chord progressions laced with synths lead you into the breakdown where the epicness of thbis little wonder begins to emerge. Strings come silently from the background, whilst a piano leads melodically with delicate chords and notes. This gives way and is replaced by a synth counterpart as things start to build up and erupt, finally, from an almighty drum roll and epic climax. The piano returns later on, adding to the melodic essence of this track and topping the emotional feel off nicely. However the best sounds and real emotion is coming from the chords the strings are playing. These drive the production but at the same time tell a beautiful musical story. As the label suggests - pure trance!
2) The First Sun 'The First Sun' possesses a different type of sound to 'Cold Chaos'. This one has stark, slapping beats, highly defined percussion and icey, edgy synths. However the thinking behind this track's style is the same, as the chord progressions are used to heavily define the melody heard. We see another combination of piano and strings here too, but the atmosphere is changed - things are much more relaxed and calming when they get going than the urgency you can hear fuelling 'Cold Chaos'. The strings take the lead overall, in a lead sense rather than backing chords which makes this piece seem lighter, but none the less trancey!
Conclusion:
Two thumbs up - when it comes to choosing between these two tracks, I think it'll all just depend what side of the bed you got out of in the morning!
