Next up on Monster Tunes' sister label, Eternity Recordings, is a piece of music coming from Russian producer Alexander Popov. Already having released 'Vapour Trails' on Insatiable Records in 2007 in receipt of huge support, he is following up this track with this new release, 'Atlantida'...
:: Alexander Popov Feat. Syntigma - Atlantida :: Eternity Recordings :: ETR006
1) Atlantida (Original Mix) 1 minute in to this track and you're hit by the fact that this tune is about bass and that it's going to be pretty much bassline driven throughout thanks to a totally fat and rasping leading bass. This is counter balanced very nicely though with an euphoric melody which comes in during the breakdown and after holding back a bit, later emerges laid over the top of the whole thing. There's also a quality high speed arpeggiated element in the background which has an irresistible retro sound and complements the melody very evenly. Driven by bass and led by an intelligent melody, overall it all adds up into a whole-heartedly enjoyable combination of sounds.
2) Atlantida (Sound Players Remix) The Sound Players have taken 'Atlantida' and remixed it onto the raw, percussive side of things. Rasping hits and gravelly basses are pronounced and at the fore along with steely, stabbing synths giving this more of a techy than electro edge. There is some slight melodic respite during the breakdowns, but this is predominantly a minimal, techy piece in essence.
3) Atlantida (Olmiq Remix) Olmiq have spiced this one up and injected extra energy! The growling bass is still a driving force and there's good emphasis on some backing pads which help set the mood, some extra melodic synth additions and atmospheric fx thrown in for good measure. The really trancey bits come in during the climactic breakdowns after which you're thrust headlong into more thundering and driving bass. A real cross-up between tech and 'electrance' (if there's such a thing! :P).
Conclusion:
The original and Olmiq mixes shine here, making themselves appeal to the trancier and tougher audiences. Another little gem for Eternity and also the talented Alexander Popov.
