As the 2008 Ibiza season gets into gear, Mauro Picotto's world renowned Meganite events at Privilege - the World's biggest club - now have an album to represent and give you a taste of this incredible clubbing phenomenon...

The tracklist boasts a respectable amount of tunage indeed. Kicking off with CD1, you instantly get (or at least you get one of) the full on Meganite flavour. The Secret Cinema Remix of Mauro Picotto's own 'Dubai' has a particular sound - the absolutely punctual beats, clicky percussion and the deep, enveloping bass notes - they all amalgamate into what Meganite encompasses - for me at least, anyway. (Try landing in Ibiza for the first time at 10pm and the first beats you hear are from the colossal system in Meganite 3 hours later at 1am and you'll get what I'm on about!).
The first CD is comprised of tracks by a handful of artists all bound together by the Alchemy record label. You see Picotto's name appear a large amount of the time (naturally) and also Athos, Ricardo Ferri, Daniele Papini plus a few others. This makes it much easier I guess for the album to follow in a particular vein and style of music. Not really much of an issue there though, as this is all about one thing: Meganite!
The nature of the tracks themselves make for a very fluid listening experience. The repetitive and progressive grooves can be (and are!) blended seamlessly together. Sometimes you'd be hard pressed to spot the transitions, but there are occasions where you're given the immense satisfaction of hearing a distinct change in key, rhythm, groove or beat.
On CD1, keep a listen out for Mauro Picotto - Dubai (Secret Cinema Remix), Mauro Picotto - Shark, the massive Daniele Papini - Church Of Nonsense and Markantonio & Joseph Capriati's Codice Morse.
CD2 steps away from the distinct 'now' and takes a close look at a collection of Mauro Picotto's own productions - old, new and remixed. I can't say that it follows any particular pattern - it kicks off with an intro mix of Picotto's lounge style 'Komonster' (remember that quality album??), then off into the dark depths of driving and deep 'underarm' techno then it get s abit random at the end with some real vintage Picotto classics.
Ones to watch out for here are 'Dubai' (again - the Original Mix this time though!), Storm di Draghi (Devid Mix), the absolutely rocking Meganite Mix of the monstrous 'Contaminato', a new 2008 remix of 'Lizard' from Sequence 11 and a delicious remix from Gabry Ribetti of 'Mehr Taub'
Conclusion:
A bit of a rocking album, this one. You do have to appreciate your techno in general or just worship Mauro Picotto though. I know this much however, it makes me want to be right there in the thick of it at Meganite, in Ibiza.
