The Irish maiden Mandy Reid is going strong with more techy offerings on Reset Records...
:: Mandy Reid - Absolute Elsewhere / Century :: Reset Records :: RS036
1) Absolute Elsewhere 'Absolute Elsewhere' is a rolling and lively techy piece. It has a very electronic sound, especially coming from the rhythmic stabs and the twisted, gritty lead. The lead itself is distinct and commanding, and without being too over powering it carries quite a cool groove. There's a breakdown with a superb contrasting set of melodic pads. The chord changes set a wicked atmosphere whilst a new riff (kind of familiar but can't place it, aargh!) is used to fill the space. This is a really feel good piece of tech which achieves great results simply because it hasn't tried too hard.
2) Century 'Century' is a deeper, and highly progressive track. It spends a lot of time building up to the addition of some synthetic sounding pads, then into a break, then the whole thing over again. It carries a nice groove, but overall is a bit samey and lacks originality.
Conclusion:
A cool release if only for 'Absolute Elsewhere' which is a highly enjoyable demonstration of how good light tech trance can sound.
