i:Vibes picks up one of the first copies of this massive album from Avex Japan, containing remixes from Svenson & Gielen, Airwave, Ferry Corsten et al. in a seemingly quality set of remixes from the top remixers in the world... worth the listen???
Yet another release from the boys and girls at Avex Japan. This comes through as part of a string of Avex Trance releases, and 2002 looks as though Avex will come through strong, with some exclusive Ferry Corsten releases and productions.
ELT aka Every Little Thing was mentioned in i:Vibes previously here:
ELT - Cyber Trance article
and now, I:Vibes picks up one of the first copies of the release from Avex. This is in a way similar to the Ayu Trance release which become quite a massive hit with the massive Armin van Buuren remix of Appears, and numerous Airwave and Darren Tate Remixes also filling the slots.
Unfortunately, Avex have done the job of trying to cram as many track as they could within a space of 1 CD. 15 Tracks over 1 CD, measures an average of 4 minutes a track. A ludicrously short time for any dance track.
Amidst this factor, we can say, the 'edits' on the CD were not bad. Myself being a Japanese music listener, might tend to be slightly biased towards saying this is good, and furthermore, I have been listening to ELT for about 5 years now, so please take that into account when i'm rambling =p.
Boasting about every big remixer on the circuit there is at the moment, this CD packs everyone from Darren Tate to Airwave to Dave 202 to Moogwai and even Ibiza legend Chris Coco. This would appear on paper to be an astonishing album, but in reality this may not impress many.
To me, most of the tracks are just slightly dancier versions of the original, with exception of maybe the Dumonde Mix of Rescue Me, and the dubbier Airwave Mix of Fragile, which come out to be the strongest 2 mixes in my opinion.
Plastic Angel bring in a nice remix of "As We Met", and keeps the same elements as the original track whilst adding a nice subdued bassline with it.
What disappointed me was the DJ Balloon Mix of Shapes of Love. The remix was done with a perhaps more German Trance sound in mind, but that didn't quite come through; instead its a slightly bizarre remix which doesn't really fit the album.
But the other German trance sound from Voodoo & Serano aka CJ Stone + DJ Voodoo bringing in the remix of "Forever Yours" is definitely a nice remix, adding a power packed bassline to the track.
What you must remember is that the tracks were originally pretty energetic in the first place combined with the vocals of Kaori may make these tracks slightly harder to remix. Although many listeners will be hoping for a more dubbier version of the tracks, this album encompasses much of Kaori's vocals, so it may not be worth listening for some of you.
Overall, the tracks are nice, and there is bound to be a vinyl release of som of the tracks, similar to how Ayu - M EP was released. This album delivers trance, and a bit of chilled beats towards the end, and overall, I wouldn't say its too bad, but in the end I would think that Avex is trying to cash out once again =p
Worth a listen to though!
This CD comes out in Japan this week, but will not see an International Release unfortunately. You may be able to get a copy from Hmv.co.jp or cdjapan.co.jp Otherwise, too bad! =)
In light of this, Avex are about to release a BEST OF Cybertrance, a 2CD compilation of the best tunes of the past several years which have featured on their albums. Included is an exclusive Johan Gielen Mix on Disc 2, as well as a 3 track Ferry Corsten Mix at the end, which brings up Out of the Blue 2002 Remake! Something to check out!
