Blue Tente puts in an effort for the fairly fresh Sensate imprint. There's a flood of remixes for this one, including tracks from Reaves & Ahorn and Alexander Popov...
:: Blue Tente - Antarctic Night :: Sensate :: SENSATE002
1) Antarctic Night (Breaksoundscapes Remix) This remix of 'Antarctic Night' is driven by an energetic and lively bassline which stabs and jitters all over the place. Overdriven synths with rough edges push out a catchy melody and their echoed sound gives the track a very large and wide open feeling to it. This almost steps into tech territory because of the drive and raw, overdriven synth sounds, but the melodic work and dreamy breakdowns help keep it tied firmly into trancier grounds.
2) Antarctic Night (Reaves & Ahorn Remix) Reaves & Ahorn put in a pretty formulaic effort. There's very little progression until after the first breakdown. The chord changes are decent and the overall sound of the track is nice, but it's quite easy to tire of it rather quickly.
3) Antarctic Night (Alexander Popov Remix) Alexander Popov really changes the mood of this track with his remix. The basses are soft as feather pillows, the pads are uber-calmed and the synths are so delicate you fear you might break them if you listen too hard. The melody is eased in gently over a long period, but in that time you just get sucked into the track because of the quality and richness of the soundscape. Once the melody is in place, you can enjoy the lead synth and a piano battling it out sweetly in what has to be the climax of the whole remix. Dreamy stuff.
4) Antarctic Night (Original Mix) The Original Mix is melody and synth heavy, aiming directly for the anthemic epic trance territory. The result is a slow build to a rather long 2 minute breakdown and then an extreme power trip as some seriously powerful synths deliver the main melody at 100%. Hands in the air stuff, but the time for this track should be chosen wisely - it's can be quite overpowering.
5) Antarctic Night (Blue Tente Balearic Mix) Blue Tente has put in their own chilled out remix in a 'balearic' style. Whilst melody heavy, the synths are tuned to an acoustic kind of sound and the overall atmosphere is calmer and very soft. One for the earlier trance sets.
6) Antarctic Night (Mindsoundscapes Remix) Last but not least comes the Mindsoundscapes Remix. This is a driving, energy filled beast with a growling bassline and a significantly raised tempo. There are some great melodic combos made with the lead synths and some acoustic sounding instruments, plus some string and piano action in the breakdown (which carries a middle eastern air about it). However once you hear it, you know that the entire first half of this remix is geared to be one big crescendo to the final stages, where icey pads soar into the stratosphere and trance this one out 100%. Pretty epic.
Conclusion:
It's hard to pick a favourite or give an accurate rating simply due to the huge number of differing remixes here. However, there's a fine cross section of trance here and so there should be something for everyone to enjoy...
