Split over two elegantly simple CDs, Fast Forward and Rewind, and housed in a cool and artistic night time cityscape, every impression you get from this even before you begin to listen is that of something highly crafted and carefully created. And as you go on to listen, you'll find that this holds true for the tracklist too.
Over both discs, select picks of 2007 and 2008 are brought into play, covering a wide range of artists and vocal appearances, all ringing around the trancey sound that comes as part and parcel of The Thrillseekers. The sound though, is allowed to meander - deeper elements are explored as are some slightly techy sounds. The progression is balanced but distinct - track by track the styles may change, sometimes abruptly, but there is always a feeling of flow and, more importantly, direction.
And it's direction these discs have been entitled with. CD1, Fast Forward, looks at prime current and future cuts. We see one of the Thrillseeker's own heavyweight singles, 'The Last Time', kicking off proceedings. Max Graham's new single, 'Carbine' has been blended in along with massively popular tracks from Euphonic's Ronski Speed ('All The Way', Anjunabeats veterans Pledger and Hardwick ('Fallen Tides') and the undeniable Solarstone ('4ever'). Not to mention the energetic note on which the first half of this album finishes on - Simon Patterson's 'Smack' and Nitrous Oxide's quality 'Red Moon Slide' take care of that wonderfully. Fast Forward starts off at a leisurely pace of 133BPM, but gradually picks up pace as it takes you on its journey. By the final track, we're pushing a racey 140BPM. This really helps aid the sense of progression as whilst the track may hold similar styles and essences, there's piles more energy to be found at more lively BPMs.
CD2, Rewind, looks over at recent favourites back from now into 2007. Whilst it follows the pattern of progression that CD1 demonstrated, this one seems to linger more with the slower, softer styles and definitely doesn't attempt to match CD1's rate of gain of pace. Even though it finishes on a bang with Simon Patterson's 'Bulldozer', the general jist is definitely that of a more relaxed sound overall. There are a lot of vocal tracks spread around CD2, with appearances from Julie Thompson, Anita Kelsey, Audrey Gallagher, Gina Dootson, Tiff Lacey and Dauby. So along with the calmer side, there is a lot more voice to listen to here on this side of the album. Also noticeable is the large proportion of Anjunabeats signed tracks too: Adam Nickey's 'Never Gone', Evobointh's 'One Wish' and Oliver Smith's lovely 'Nimbus'.
Conclusion:
The Thrillseekers always delivers with the Night Music compilations. Every time he seems to effortlessly collect together tracks which really work together under the Night Music branding and work wonders for the artists involved, The Thrillseekers themself and also trance overall. Essential listening.
