Danjo & Styles turn back the memory clock to 2004 to re-visit their classic Trance single Duende and give it some new added spice for 2008. Are the new mixes any good though? The simple answer to that lies inside...
The Dutch pair of Danjo & Styles has been involved in the music business throughout this century and continues to gather admirers with every release. Their first big break came back in 2002 when Armin van Buuren signed them to his own Armada label and since then they have continued to improve the quality of their music. Danjo's last release on this label 'As The Tables Turn' is still hammering club speakers to death. As the pair focuses more on individual projects at the moment they have gone back to 2004 to re-visit an old classic. 'Duende' for me is one of the pairs strongest records to date and it's back for 2008 with three new mixes.
:: Rob Styles Remix :: Danjo's Kanova Remix :: Cliff Coenraad & Thomas Hagenbeek Repimp
Rob Styles mix is the first one that I put on out of this little threesome here. I had to remind myself of the original as I've not heard it for a while just to see what differences there are with the new mixes. The route Rob has gone here is very progressive both in the way the track carries itself and the various sounds feed in as it continues forward. The beat is deep and strong with a good punch on it and quite relaxing as things get going. Sweeping echo's in the distance add depth to the introduction with harmonic elements complimented by soft tingling piano sequences. The melody that grabs your attention layers itself in with a double attack that grabs your attention then makes you wonder where it went as it sweeps back into track again. It’s a great bit of work on this re-make and the progressive pick for those who like it like way.
The only progressive nature with Danjo's remix is its sure to stick a hair up on your beck every time with its epic melody. You have to think of a blend of soft backing sounds with an filter air guitar feel on the main hook which is massive. It's one that grabs for by the bollocks and makes you take notice, although I don’t suggest doing that if you want an extra sensation. The fun begins after the beats get rolling and the trakc starts to build up the sound. Before all that the groove in the back of the bass gets things on the move. Everything soon cuts and in jumps a harmonising sweep shortly followed by an epic riff. The melody's got big room sound all over it and flows through back when the beat starts to pump again. The changes are superb and the feel of the track is great right the way through. It really needs to be listened to and appreciated as the guitar just rips right through you.
Its very much a mixed bag of mixes with Cliff Coenraad & Thomas Hagenbeek offering an up-beat, perky, almost funky feeling with their 're-pimp'. Although don’t expect any chrome spinners or under floor neon’s with this mix as its strictly bright beats and flamboyant kicks. The stutters and beats to be found in here make for a refreshing sound and although it won’t knock the sails back into you it will certainly help you gather speed. The main melody is lying deep inside the track here with it breaking and firing back in with a bright energetic squeak. It's a perky is this one.
Conclusion:
There are some re-makes that should just not be done but thankfully this one is as far away from that status as you can get with three different mixes to be found here with a different taste to be found with each. Danjo's mix would be the pick of the bunch for me as it’s an absolute epic and deserves to be enjoyed. Go grab these at the i:Vibes store and enjoy!
