Chicane have collected together their finest production work of the past fourteen years and brought them together for this 'Best Of' release. This is essential audio...
When I say 'they' have collected together their finest production work I do just mean Nicholas Bracegirdle who is the man behind the Chicane alias. It always amazes me to look into the real producers behind the aliases to see just how many people are responsible for the project. The Chicane name should be one you known very well as his music have been entertaining music fans since 1996 when he created the aliases. Since the early days he has worked with an array of pop talent with some of his releases but still knocking out the epic sounds you are more familiar with. His last artist album 'Somersault' was different to what you have heard before but a very refreshing change as it had real depth within its ten or so tracks. Over the years though he's produced more epics than I have fingers on each hand and here is a collection to why he is one of the greatest producers of all time.

This album really is essential audio for not just any Chicane fan but any Dance music fan. It's brimmed with just about every Chicane record you could reel off the top of your head that springs to mind when you think about the artist. His early material really carved out a good reputation with 'Offshore' very rightly being at the start of this collection. It was that track on his debut album that really got people talking about this guy and showcased what talents he had behind production equipment. The original of that was a chilled out breakbeat epic which to this day is inspiring to the ear. The club mix went down just as well to and its not that old in the memory if you bought the re-release of 'Far From The Maddening Crowds' at the end of last year.
There have been a few very notable collaborations with Chicane. He enlisted the help of pop legend Tom Jones to put his vocal work on 'Stoned In Love'. He got pop rock legend Bryan Adams to help him out with the vocals on 'Don’t Give Up', a track that he dusted off his 'Disco Citizen's' alias off to do a remix of. That remix is one of my favourite tracks from that time back in 1999 and was a highlight of the 'National Anthems' compilation by Gatecrasher. He has even gone so far to get Indie outfit Keane to do vocals for him, which they did on 'Wake Up'. The only collaboration I'm sure he was drugged to do was the latest one with Natasha Bedingfield covering his classic 'Saltwater' track. The only vocals that should go on that record - for me anyway - are by the original vocalist Moya Brennan. 'Bruised Water' is in my opinion the worst track Chicane has ever released and one I hope gets forgotten very quickly.
Apart from that minor moan there is nothing I don’t like about Chicane. His down tempo productions are warm and inviting, not to mention packed with emotion. One of the best of those would be 'No Ordinary Moment' that really grabs your deep sense of being and makes you think. 'Come Tomorrow' would be that tracks big brother for me as it gives the same kind of feeling but with a stronger sense of sound.
The tracks on here are all unmixed which is a good thing as they work better that way for a collection of tracks. With eighteen tracks here don’t expect to find any club mixes but just find radio style edits of Chicane's finest work. You never know he might release a few samplers with club mixes of the tracks featured in here. I for one would welcome a few of those.
Conclusion:
This really is the best of Chicane and I'm sure not the last either. He's responsible for two of the biggest trance records back in the 90's with 'Offshore' and 'Saltwater'. This collection for those who don’t know him by any other productions will be an eye-opener to his wide range of productions. It's brilliant this collection and deserves all the praise it gets.
