Maelstrom and superclub phenomenon Slinky team up for this new mix series, available exclusively in digital format, Global Trance. This first installment was recorded whilst Slinky was touring in New Zealand, hence the name.

Slinky's Head of Events, the DJ / producer Lee Haslem, who is also the Global Trance series resident, mixed this one up and went on to say "Releasing an album to a global marketplace is a huge undertaking, so to put it into a digital format and through such a huge portal like iTunes, not only gives us the freedom to embrace new music and new talent, but will also help develop it to an exciting and cutting edge audience..."

Two things are immediately apparent about the album itself. 1) A diverse tracklisting. 2) Lots of big names. A fair range of [sub]genres are covered and we're seeing tracks from people like Sander van Doorn, Richard Durand, Paul Oakenfold, Jon O'Bir, Mark Pledger, Matt Hardwick, Lee haslem himself and Simon Patterson.

The album plays through pretty much how you'd expect a set at Slinky to go, or maybe even a condensed version of an entire night! kicking off wih Svd and Richard Durand, the pace is slower and the music chunkier and deeper. It picks up slowly and seamlessly, which is important - nothing jumps out and shouts "Raaargh" at you, thus preserving the all important flow of the journey in a decent trance set. Midway through sees a great blend of energy and euphoria, and before all of that gets too overwhelming, the sound toughens and things go more techy though none of the drive is lost. The closing sections are handled expertly by Tom Colontonio, M6, Simon Patterson and Sean Tyas, so don't blink or you might miss some of the excellence which is in plentiful supply here!

The mixing, is very well performed i think. It doesn't seem like a slapped together mix for a big name at all, which is very pleasing. There is definitely thought and planning and the mixing is clsss - not really any dead space between tracks to report on and no super forced early "I'll mix these tracks together if it kills me dammit" mixes, which again is great!

Conclusion:
A solid mix album for the discerning trance aficionado! The Slinky name is done proud in this great demonstration of 1) the brand and 2) great trance music.
