He's had two very promising releases on Vandit this year and rounds off 2008 with a brand new techno inspired offering on Sander van Doorn's very own Doorn Records label...
The DOORN label rolls onto its seventeenth release with Jon Rundell. Up to this year when he had a debut release on Vandit Digital I had never heard of him but he is a very good friend of techno genius Carl Cox which can't be a bad ear when wanting an opinion on his latest productions. I'm sure this one has the Cox's seal of approval. The release gets the remix treatment by the creator of the label Sander van Doorn who continues to enlarge his fan base with excellent music and inspiring live gigs.
:: Original Mix :: Sander Van Doorn Remix
I have only ever heard two Jon Rundell tracks and both of those where his releases on Vandit Digital. This new one takes on a different sound with flowing techno broken up by ruffed up roll that echo's until the beats return. The thing with records in this style is they have a very simple pattern to them which you either instantly get addicted to or find it unbearable annoying. Thankfully for Jon he has come up trumps with this one. It's a little funky on first inspection and is the kind of track you could slide in to prepare for an uplifting break. You could say the sound in here is a little tribal with all the percussion stabbing away but it’s definitely one thing and that’s catchy.
Sander Van Doorn is a man on fire with people who I've spoken to that have heard him live itching for more. It's very easy to see why as his productions are spot on at the moment. It's just the same with his remixes as he's done an excellent job in creating a very different vibe with his remix here. The remix reminds me of something that Mauro Picotto would put in his sets and that he may well have done. The remix here has a good upbeat energy to it and takes the short break Jon created and surrounds it with Sander Van Goodness. There is a good stab leading from the beat that beeps at you twice to invite you in with bright echo key's complimented by swooping sound feeling in the mood. Its quite progressive here and darker that Jon's take but the philosophy remains the same in the way it delivers the break.
Conclusion:
This is the best production from Jon I've heard this year and that could well be down to the fact that the style of techno he's brought to the table is just the kind I like to have for dinner. Techno records can sometimes be a bit dull, but when worked correctly just can't be tired off. Jon's track here just has a catchy flow to it with Sander adding the progressive tech we known him well for.
