The dirty rocker that is Ronald Van Gelderen returns to his uplifting routes with his new peak time trance release on High Contrast Recordings. It's all a bit of a rush...
You tend to find that many artists start off producing in one style and then diverse slipping in different elements and moulding their sound to something different. One thing never changes and that’s they never forget the sound that they that first got people into their records. In recent releases Ronald Van Gelderen has shifted away from the uplifting trance and put other feelings in his records. This brand new release from Ronald goes right back to his uplifting style he first brought with 'Proceed' and his excellent remix of 'Carte Blanche'. This time though its pure uplifting trance and not the industrial vibe he gave off with his early uplifting releases.
:: Original Mix :: DJ Preach Remix
The Original Mix is as uplifting as they come but one thing with is I think people may either love it or hate it. Why I think that is the sound in the main melody could be misconceived as being a bit cheesy but that’s if your ears have been flooded with the trashy commercial rubbish that litters stereo's in popular nightspots. The way Ronald starts off this uplifting effort is great with a solid beat that rips out a nice thud in the ear which is swiftly followed by a stuttered intro that feeds in the main beat and kicks. The build up here slides together short drum roll’s with a rolling high note building the track up. It's got an old sound to the main melody which pulsates into the record after a shirt symbol break. It’s big, euphoric and right in your face but the synth is a sound you will have heard before if you like your trance. It's that element that some people may find this a bit on the cheesy side but on my first listen I got none of that just a bright uplifting peak trancer worth hearing.
After the uplifting sound of the original DJ Preach puts a totally different spin on it. You could almost thing this is a separate track rather than a remix as gone is the traditional build and uplifting sting of the original and in slots of techy sounding effect ridden track that’s pretty refreshing on closer inspection. There are lots of things going off in here with the main lead being a stuttering gritty roll using a very nice sounding synth. That gets filtered down to tappy sounding beats as the main break comes and goes with the track returning to its skippy roll that gives a bit of funk to the overall vibe in here. Here we have quite a refreshing take on a very uplifting record, which some will prefer over it.
Conclusion:
Its very different from his last few releases but a welcome change as I quite like what Ronald has put together here. His mix may well be a bit like Marmite but unlike that disgusting stuff I quite like this.
