The latest release on Vandit digital breaks cover and it’s a scintillating female vocal trance affair with Alex M.O.R.P.H. at the controls. You could say this is a little down tempo comparing to recent releases but a welcome variation...
The rate of releases in recent months by Alex M.O.R.P.H. has been very welcome for my record collection as each one seems to please the ear and feed the audio soul. Vandit have been a good source of new releases in the latter part of last year with the excellent 'Sunshine' and his last smash 'Purple Audio', which was the first time for a while the traditional blue and white sleeve sported different colours. The latest release is a beautiful female vocal Trance offering, but taking on a more relaxing vibe than you usually expect. It's not the first female vocal track he's produced and certainly not the last but is it one of his best?
:: Original mix :: Love Girls inchG5inch Remix :: Jonas Hornblad Remix
The Original Mix was not what I expect on first play, not from what I've been used to from Mr M.O.R.P.H. The record kicks off at a steady pace but gives out a decent thud with a strong soft edged beat to lead off. The short intro brings us into the first break, which is lead by a Balearic guitar riff and begins feeding the gorgeous vocals of Roberta Harrision. The vibe you get with this from the start is of a Balearic edged up lifter that wants to play with your emotions. The guitar breakdowns complimented by an off beat break beat and smoothed over with the vocals work really well. It's not peak time uplifting this but has depth of emotion driven deep into the track by the backing chord changes. They almost feel like a long violin string with guitar in the background. 'I've got a photograph of you', the vocals say, but I think your be saying that this is a very well worked track from Alex. The mix is Smooth, chilled and displaying the more relaxed side of his production talents.
From the feeling of the original the Love Girls inchG5inch Remix is a world apart in style and delivery. It's edging on the minimal techno category and it would not surprise me if this ended up in a Mauro Picotto style as its got that feeling to it. The track progressively builds up the sound with the main lead being a rolling wet sounding riff with quirky squirts and a dash of chopped up vocal to add effect. The main hook in here builds right in the middle of the track when the rolling lead builds up into an explosion and drops back once again into rhythm. This mix if for those who like their techno on the progressive side and may not really appeal to the trance fan who wants pumping beats and hug uplifting melodies.
The most uplifting mix in this release comes from Jonas Hornblad who I don’t think I've heard much from, if I have nothings stuck in the memory. I'd guess that he's not had many releases but on the basis of this suburb remix I'm sure he'll get the chance to showcase his talents more. The remix strips out the steady uplifting sequence you can find hidden in the original and ups the tempo with it to twist it into a real uplifting melody that hits right at the heart of the track and changes tone just at the right moment. The pace is picked up and in here you'll find big room Trance with a backing gritty bass line that’s going to work the speaker like Mr Motivator did to fat people back in the 90's. The vocals remain the same and are fed in just at the right moment to add more uplifting quality to the mix. It's the best mix out of the three in here and I'm sure the one you will want to slam into your sets to pick up the tempo a bit.
Conclusion:
It's very rare you get a dodgy release on Vandit anyway but it’s always worth noting the ones that stand out better than the rest. The original might be a little on the 'soft' side for those expecting the usual big beat M.O.R.P.H. treatment but it’s a welcome change. The mix to really have a nosey at in here is Jonas Hornblad as its erratically addictive!
