Good news for all you Solarstone fans out there is they are coming at you with a brand new compilation series they like to call ''Electronic Architecture'. The first chapter is ready after 6 months of hard work but what's it all about? Find out...
The Solarstone project has been around for well over a decade and produced classic compositions like 'Seven Cities', 'Solarcoaster', 'Release' and one of their latest releases 'Late Summer Fields' which came from their quite superb ''Rain Stars Eternal' album released in 2007. The group used to be three with Sam Tierney but then reduced to two with Andy Bury and now is solely in the hands of Richard Mowatt. Safe hands they are as Solarstone could not be stronger with their connected record labels Insatiable Records and Solaris Recordings in very good shape.
It's been a little while since we have heard anything from them though but that’s always a sign that they have been hibernating away working on the next project. That next project is almost here and its very juicy stuff with a brand new compilation spread over two discs. This is only the beginning as there will be more to come but the first chapter of this new project looks very promising. The idea behind it is two present two discs of intelligently crafted together mixes of immersive and engrossing music with that Solarstone style. The artists featured over the two discs may not be ones you have heard anything from before with a injection of new material being thrown in with more familiar names like Saint's & Sinners, Breakfast and Alucard. The new artists have been hunted out by Richard of the thousands of submitted demo's he received through the Solaris label. They represent the best new Breaks, Trance and progressive names that may well be erupting on the scene in the next few months.
As with a lot of Solarstone's compilations they have been getting very creative with the artwork and concept for this new compilation:
"For me, the visual aspect of this project was essential from the outset. To have such a rich new musical tapestry and not represent it with equally beautiful visuals would have been a huge missed opportunity. This album represents exactly what I stand for as an artist, producer & DJ. This is the music I love to listen to. It is inspirational in its inventiveness, musically ambitious and never formulaic or predictable. This is an album that I want your finger to pause upon whilst browsing dusty CD shelves in ten years time, for both its aesthetic and auditory qualities" Richard Mowatt (Solarstone)
Electronic Architecture Competition
In celebration of another what looks to be essential Solarstone release they are giving away a very speicial framed reproduction of the original artwork for the compilation. The work on it was produced by the Art Group who is the people responsible for the very well known Tate Gallery. Be safe in the knowledge it’s of the finest quality and not a kindergaden throw together. The theme with the artwork and name does go well with today’s digital nature of dance music and this prize will sit very nicely on the wall of any electronic music fan's wall. Not only that, but the winner will also get the very first pressed copy of the album and a T-Shirt to go with it.
To enter the competition you will have to dig out your favourite music covers as they want you to put together five of your all time favourite record sleeves. If you don’t have the sleeve dig it out on the internet but make sure you have a jpeg of the cover to send in. Once you have gathered five of your finest mail them off to competition@solarstone.co.uk and cross your fingers.
Solarstone will be on tour for the new album but I've not had any of the dates through for them as yet. It's not just a DJ set though as the live shows will be a combination of stunning visuals in time with the tracks pumping out the bass bins. The tour dates will be announced soon so keep your eyes peeled on the Solarstone web site. The compilation is not out until April but the tracklist has already been published.
