 This spring sees Ministry Of Sound release one of the most comprehensive dance compilation series ever. The ‘Dance Years’ is a collection of the biggest and most important dance tracks spanning 1988 – 2008.
Each of the 20 albums is dedicated to a particular year, and the individual albums will be released in five chronological batches across 2009. The collectible nature of the series means the entire run will form a valuable addition to any music collection. In addition to the music, each physical release will contain sleeve notes detailing what happened within the scene during those twelve months.
The first five releases, ‘The Dance Years…1988/1989/1990/1991/1992’ will be released individually on 23 March 2009. Tracks include: Blake Baxter’s ‘When We Used To Play’, Maurice ‘This Is Acid’, Fast Eddie ‘Acid Thunder, and Inner City ‘Groovin’ Without A Doubt’, alongside cuts from S’Express, Bam Bam, Kariya, Mr Lee, Reese & Santonio, Was (Not Was), Neneh Cherry, Jolly Roger, and many more.
BBC 6 Music’s Dave Pearce has put together the entire series. Pearce, renowned for his long-running radio show, Dance Anthems, was the perfect candidate for such a mammoth task. As a radio and club DJ, he was instrumental in the first dance music explosion of the late 1980’s, helping the scene grow from a micro-culture into the worldwide phenomenon it is today.
Pearce has written a short foreword in each album, as well as providing the sleevenotes on the major club happenings of that year.
