Jose Amnesia is getting quite a dab hand at putting new spice into old classics after his remake of Karen Overton's 'Your Loving Arms' going down well last year. He's at it again and remixes a classic by Olive...
The beautiful melodies of Jose Amnesia should be very familiar to any Trance follower and those who love their Trance deep with feeling and packed with flavour. His breakthrough record 'The Eternal', which set the dance scene alight, is now over ten years old with its first release back in 1998. He has had a sprinkling of fine releases in the past few years with collaboration with Serp producing the excellent 'Second Day' and the Piano driven 'Follow Me'. Jose has a very relaxed sound with his tracks and the remake he released last year of Karen Oveton's cover of a 90's dance track by Billy Ray Martin 'Your Loving Arms' went down a treat. Here then is his new one and its a remake of another 90's dance track this time by Olive 'Your Not Alone'.
:: J.A Sunrise Mix :: Jose Amnesia Club Mix :: Jose Amnesia Dub Mix
You always approach remakes of old dance tracks with an air of caution but when they come from the production decks of Jose Amnesia caution is replaced with anticipation. The original Olive was a real down tempo breakbeat affair with a deep dark driving riff that rippled deep through you. Jose has kept the same feeling with his two mixes here which are not that dissimilar. The Sunrise Mix starts off with a soft but firm beat complimented by snappy kicks. The mood with it is punchy with the strings in the background flowing nicely as the vocals, which Jennifer Rene has covered superbly start to roll out. The breaks and bright building pulse of sound when the beat backs off for a moment give it a uplifting feel and you can sense its building unto one big climax. The main climax drops with the riff you loved back in the nineties remaining unchanged ripping away. The vocals work a gem with it and the whole mix is crafted together very delicately. The whole track’s very Balearic in feel and with a soft tone keeping the mood of the original.
The club mix is on a slightly different level to the Sunrise mix. The flow with it is more progressive and the main riff is blended into the track more but still inserts itself just when you think its been hidden away. The beat is slightly different and does not seems to have the same punch on it as before. The feel in the track is very relaxed and deep rivers of sound pulse behind the vocals as they entice you into the track. The Dub mix is just that, a dub, no vocals just purely instrumental.
Conclusion:
I really like this and think Jose has hit this remake spot on. It's not cheesy or badly produced and it keeps with the same deep feel of the original but puts a trance vibe on it. Those of you who like your more relaxed Trance tracks will love this.
