© Provided by Mario LopezThe German producer behind 'Free Your Mind' which was released on during late February to the public and remixes for CJ Stone's Shining Star talks to i:Vibes about how he started out, and his music.

The producer behind "Free Your Mind" with co-producer Sasha de Vries, and remixes as far as CJ Stone's Shining Star and Dumonde's Never Look Back is Mario Lopez, the 32 year old DJ and producer from Germany has been a big name in dance music during 2001 and looks to be big in 2002 as well! He takes a little time of production work to talk to i:Vibes

- Hi there Mario, first of all, for those who are familiar with you and not so familiar with you, can you give us a little info as to how you came about being a dj and producer.. your likes, dislikes and such?

Mario:I started DJing at the age of 18... and I guess I learnt by always having a great interest in music and I was always up at the clubs watching the DJs do their stuff....thats how i learned DJing! Then, at the age of 26 i meet Sascha de Vries...and we started to produce tracks! Later, in 1999 i started to DJ and produce under the name "Mario Lopez" (My first DJ name was "DJ Silencer")!
What i like? (laughs) Well girls, music, sports, sleeping for ages, and how about a family!? So pretty much all round? =p
My dislikes include bad whether, liars, arrogant people, and a hectic work schedule

You've sometimes been described as producing trance, sometimes dance music, sometimes euro dance. How do you classify you own productions under your various collaborations / remixes and your own productions

Mario:i would like to not classify my productions....i like to make music which people can dance and have fun too! i also like nice melodys and trancy hooklines (mostly sung by females)...so the main guideline when making songs is, it has to be trance! i am also a big "freak of nature" (hoops, this could be a title for one of my tracks), i think this maybe explains the title of my debut-single "the sound of nature" later, "sound of nature part II" and of course my album "mother earth"!!!

You have mainly concentrated on spreading your sound in Europe, in particular Germany and Holland and the UK in terms of DJing and productions. Do you have any plans to try the USA scene and the Asian scene?

Mario:well, we have had some success in Asia in terms of releases. I have also had pretty good success in releases in New Zealand, Australia, even Thailand and "I dont know exactly how" Japan!? But in all the named countries i have entered the single charts so I'm quite happy with that. Also my sound has been released all over America (Both North and South), but since it wasn't a big marketing action, the exposure was minimal! but i would be glad to do some gigs there!

In terms of producers, there are tonnes of including fellow Germans Paul van Dyk, DJ Tandu, and current hot favorites Talla 2XLC as well as Ferry Corsten, but in your opinion, who do you see as being the best DJs and producers in the world? How about any favorite tracks at the moment?

Mario:i dont have a favorite DJ or someone i would call "Best DJ in the world", there are lot of very good DJs and producers out there...too many to list!
but in terms of tracks, the hottest item in my box now is Svenson & Gielen's - Twisted!!! Thats a bomb of a track!

How about in terms of your own productions and remixes; Whats to come for the year 2002 from you? and what plans do you have? any collaborations in the works? Any particular artists you'd like to work with?

Mario: Right now my new single "Free Your Mind" is out in Europe on vinyl and I hope to finish my new album for this upcoming summer 2002, so there is a lot coming up!! But keep your eyes peeled! It would be great to work with someone like Ferry Corsten or perhaps Johan Gielen and I truly admire their work ....but at the moment there is no dialog for anything, maybe in the near future!? Who knows!

What else do you wish to add to this interview from your own life or other aspects we haven't covered
-well, i have a new homepage, where you can get all the newest facts&stuff about me....until now its only in german, but there will come up a english one in the next 2 weeks!!

Mario:Thanks for reading! And greets to those who love my music!

i:Vibes thanks Mario Lopez for this interview, and in the meantime, check out his latest track "Free Your Mind", a dab of Euro Trance for you there, but no harm done there!

Stay tuned for more news on his album as well as his upcoming productions.
