The voting for this year's fourth annual America's Best DJ has begun and you have the choice of 100 of the best DJ talent stateside to determine this year's Best American DJ...
Those of you who have not heard of this award before will be wondering just what is it all about. The idea is very simple; in collaboration between DJ Times magazine and DJ equipment kings Pioneer they have selected one hundred of the finest DJ's in America today. The style of music is as open as the contest with DJ's from the world of Hip Hop, House, Techno, Progressive, Rap, Breaks and Trance. The list of DJ talent features the likes of Moby, DJ Craze, Josh Wink, Steve Porter, Markus Schulz, BT and Roger Sanzhez just to name a few from the list of the hundred up for the award. As the name suggest, the competition is only available for those DJ's born and bread in the United States of America and with the list of DJ's more or less a Dance Music fan's household name list it's a great advert that there are some very talented DJ's in America.
Last year's awards saw Psy and Progressive Trance DJ Christopher Lawrence scoop the number one slot along with a very special Gold DJM800 mixer from Pioneer. The rules of the contests dictate that the previous year's winner is ineligible for consideration the year after so we are guaranteed a brand new winner for this year’s award. I'm sure Christopher wont mind passing on his crown to another fellow American DJ talent though as he's a DJ who just seems to keep getting bigger and bigger. The people behind selecting the list of 100 DJ's are the experienced staff who write for the DJ Times, one of America's most respected music publications which I don’t think you can get here in the UK but those over the pond will have spotted it on newsstands.
There will be a stateside tour for the awards with nominees up for the award being able to demonstrate their case for being America's Best DJ. The full tour schedule has not yet been announced but they have published ten dates for the tour so far spread out all over America.
VOTING IS NOW OPEN
The ballots went live yesterday for this years awards and you can submit your vote via the official web site. The voting process is very simple but you will only be able to vote once. On the ballot page you need to select up to five favourite DJ's from the list of 100 nominated and submit your choices using a valid e-mail address as you will be sent an authentication mail to confirm your entry. The vote works on a points system with the DJ who gains the most in total being the winner. You don’t have to select five DJ's, you can just select one or two but if you select more the points will be shared out between your choices. Every entry will be put into a draw to win a trip for two to Las Vegas for the closing ceremony of the Awards at the end of the summer. There will also be other prizes up for grabs including DJ equipment, CD's and merchandise so it’s worth putting your vote in.
