 The Russian Trance sensation that is Bobina is riding on the crest of an ice cool wave after his fantastic debut artist album released earlier this year. Here is what he is upto this month...
Aside from Vodka another very fine Russian export that springs to mind (musically speaking no liqueur) would be the very talented Bobina. His friends know him as Dmitry Almazov but in the Trance community he is well established as Bobina, the very creative and musically talented electronic music producer. That's when he's not to busy clubbing all the time as his award nominated radio show would suggest. His latest newsletter popped into the i:Vibes mailbag this week and its worth sharing.
Bobina To Play At Russia's Global Gathering
The 1st of August is the date and St. Petersberg is the city where Bobina will be one of the headline acts for Russia's Global Gathering '09. He’ll be playing alongside Basement Jaxx, Oakenfold, Axwell, Sander Kleinenberg and Markus Schulz on the main stage for what is sure to be one of the country's biggest '09 festivals. Before that though he’ll be warming up for the one and only Paul van Dyk, when the German trance master plays at the legendary Gaudi Arena in the capital on the 9th of May. Categorically not one to miss!
'Russia Goes Clubbing' Nominated for R.M. Radio Award
Bobina's radio show ‘Russia Goes Clubbing’, which is broadcast through national station DFM in 50 of the Federation’s cities, has been nominated for a Radiomania 2009 award! The most prestigious radio awards in the country, it has been nommed in the much-prized ‘Best Music Show’ category. Delighted Dmitry said as the news broke: “my mission has always been to bring dance music into mainstream culture in Russia. The show Russia Goes Clubbing is a vital part of that and that R.G.C. is the only electronic music show nominated makes me feel that the breakthrough is happening!
NEW PRODUCTIONS: Bobina's 'Invisible Touch' and 'Time & Tide' News
In the eye of the production storm this month, two of Dmitry’s latest electronic opuses have been busily gathering gongs in April. Both the original and Ferry Corsten remixes of ‘Invisible Touch’ have been racking up the plays. Armin made it his ‘Tune of the Week’ on ASOT398, which was echoed by the popular vote with a ‘Future Favorite’ nod just a week later on 399. And in a beautiful piece of symmetry it also got 3 plays during Armin’s 72 hour ASOT400 broadcast-a-thon!
While over on the ‘Time & Tide’, er, side, the Gareth Emery-remixed vocal monster rocketed to the No.1 position on the Beatport chart last week! You can add it to you (no doubt!) highly-refined mp3 collection by picking it up from Track It Down.
Dmitry would also like to say a big ‘thank you’ to all the those budding studio-heads that entered the Maelstrom ‘Remix Time & Tide’ competition. He says: "when it came down to it, it was a really hard choice. There was at least ten of the entries that I really liked!". At the end of the day though there can only be one winner so hearty congratulations to Danish producer Mikklas whose "interesting and original" remix will now see its way onto the finished release.
