The announcement that Orbital were reforming and going back on tour this year brought one or two jaws dropping to the floor with anticipation as they are true legends of Dance music. Cue a new double essential LP from the brothers...
The year Orbital first released a dance record I was still wetting the bed and playing with farm animals, toy ones of course so don’t call the police! They have been around for 20 years and responsible for some of the most pioneering dance music ever released. I for one thought the 'Orbital' project was dead and buried to live on only in the tens of dozens of 'classic' compilations we see every year but I'm very please to see I was wrong. The announcement earlier in the year that they would be coming back this year to tour once again after year's of hiding away working on other projects was welcome news to all those who love dance music.
Their old albums may well be gathering dust in of lot of record collector’s archives but get ready to dig them out once more with a very special double disc album with their all time classic cuts and remixes featured. I say dig out the old ones as I'm sure this release will leave you curious to remind yourself of the other hidden gems they have released over the years you may have forgot about. On this very special release though you can find 'Chime', 'Lush' and the Irish named 'Belfast'. Those three records looking back may have been very simple but often its the simple things that turn out to be the most revolutionary and especially 'Chine' as that blew most people's socks off back when it got first released in 1989. One of my personal favourites from the brothers is the orgasm inspiring Halcyon, for which Tom Middleton has produced a very special Edit of for the album. You can hear a snippet of his new re-make here and those of you who tune into Pete Tong's Radio 1 show will have already heard it as he's been playing it for the past two weeks.

Release Date: Summer
“This compilation is the most definitive summary of our work since ‘Chime’ came out in 1989”, says Paul Hartnoll on the release of their definitive collection, “It's a great introduction, or indeed a reminder, of the story so far...”
That is great news as we may even see some new Orbital productions before the end of the year but while you wait for that you really should go and see them at one of their Live Dates for this Summer. They have over eleven confirmed UK gigs with more being added by the week. Their 'Live' show really is something to behold, even if it's just for all the equipment they use to perform the music as they don’t just pack a CD wallet and hope their beat matching is spot on for the night. The full schedule is up on their official web site so go book yourself a ticket if you can as it's an essential gig for any Dance music fan and certainly Orbital fanatics.
